Grades. Another DT doesn't look like a priority right now

2016 is LOADED with in-state DL talent and we're in good shape with a lot of them. Expect a lot of DT's and SDE in the next class.

You can take Ganus off, he will count against last years haul. Im gonna go on a limb and say Pruitt sees much that you don't, plus he has seen him in person.

I don't like the sound of that. We're already well into the plan B guys IMO, at least on the defensive side. Guys like Amaechi, Abram, Taylor, Baker, Ganus.

I can tell you that Juwan Taylor and Deandre Baker were not plan B guys. They were identified early by this coaching staff. Both have an impressive offer list, and both were recruited hard by National Powers. i.e. LSU really wanted Taylor and Texas really wants Baker.

Amaechi and Abram I’ll concede, but Ganus is a proven D1 player (check out his stat line) so I don’t think it’s fair to lump him in with the other players.

Abram wasn't a plan B for Georgia. He was a camp offer. I think he's the best of the safeties we have committed.

They went to see Amaechi live twice, and he was the only JUCO ILB they offered. His coach had him playing a different position, so I'll reserve judgement.

Bottom line is that a class of 30 is going to have 3*s.

People don't realize that sometimes the difference between a 3 and a 4 and a 5 can sometimes be something as small as pro-typical size limitations, frame, etc. 3 star players are damn good players usually and sometimes end up being the best ones we bring in. That's why you see teams that recruit nothing but 3 star players are competitive SEC teams. Although, you rarely see a Percy Harvin type player in that scenario but they are D1 caliber players and certainly aren't plan B's. I really like the 2 guys we pulled out of Miss.

Of the 32 players drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, four were rated as five-star recruits out of high school — just one more than the total of players rated as two-star players taken among the first 32 picks Thursday night.

You also realize that there are way fewer five stars so the chances of a two star making it are waaaaaay lower.

It's a numbers game, though.

You have 32 first round picks, let's say 4 were 5 stars, 11 were 4 stars, 12 were 3 stars, 5 were 2 stars or below.

In a given year, you have ~30 5 star recruits, ~300 4 star recruits, ~750-1000 3 star recruits, and an untold plethora of 2 star, 1 star, and unrated recruits.

Using the data above:
-13% of the five star players ended up being first rounders. Several more likely ended up being high 2nd or 3rd round picks.
-3.6% of 4 star recruits made it into the first round. Many more are littered throughout the rest of the draft.
-Less than 1% of the 3 stars coming out in the class were drafted in the first round. There will be far more drafted in the later rounds of the draft, though.
-For your 2 star athletes and below, it's a very minuscule percent for how many make it into the draft at all, let alone the first round.

Sure, with highly rated kids you're going to have busts and you're going to have kids fly under the radar only to explode on the scene at the college level. However, a team full of 4 and 5 star kids is likely going to produce far more NFL players than a team filled with 2 and 3 star players.

Solid post.

Based on recent UGA history, we do best with a combination of talent and "good kid". Hoping the coaching carousel doesn't cost us too much.

Abrams was lightly recruited, we beat out Louisville and Kentucky,

And Ole Miss

probably wouldn't have gotten a UGA offer if Rico McGraw hadn't flipped.

Abram and McGraw aren't similar players at all. Wilson may be more applicable there.

Taylor is a good athlete, but he's a 6 foot 195 pound linebacker with a small frame

More like 6'2" 210 now, but you're right that he is smaller. LSU, Clemson also wanted him. You aren't going to see 250 lb. LBs at UGA under Pruitt.

we didn't feel comfortable with what we already had at MLB.

We've known that since Pruitt got here.

the ones I listed are undoubtedly players we took because we missed on bigger targets.

I disagree. Taylor and Abram got offered in the spring and summer, respectively. That's not when you offer "plan B" guys.

from "insider" on FSF...

Got a little re-assertion on my Rico suspicion's from the other day during the AA game. I got a call as soon as Bama landed Shefield (very Bama-ishly) and told y'all something was brewing. He's not stupid and knows what their depth looks like, they add another top corner (who is ridiculous BTW) to their class late, long after they've been assuring Rico he was the "top corner left on their board" which can't make him feal all warm and fuzzy about their "word". Pruitt smells blood in the water when it's crunch time folks!

We just landed Briscoe to go with our corner haul as well. He would have a better chance to play with us but he would still have to earn it.
