I can go back and forth with this all day, but the fact is people need to stop whining so frickn much over recruits the coaching staff don't have control over.
Posted on 2/5/13 at 9:45 am to DawgRff
Amen. The coaches can only do so much. If the kids don't want to go to UGA then they don't. Our coaches can't force them, especially when other schools are giving them car key handshakes and equestrian scholarships to their girlfriends.

What's to go over? You posted something that would be an NCAA violation.
Posted on 2/5/13 at 10:10 am to gatorhata9
I know they can't force them to come to UGA. However, I am results oriented and adamantly believe UGA needs to do whatever it takes, within reason, to make itself more appealing. The program has too much potential for second place to be an acceptable outcome. Good is the enemy of great, and all that jazz.
I'm done ranting for the day. Let's get back to talking recruits.

So, if it's not considred cheating to offer a girlfriend a scholarship to land a recruit then why don't we do things like that?

Yeah, I'm starting to feel the same way. I mean, if the NCAA didn't buttfrick Auburn for what they did, why aren't we at least doing SOME shady shite? All that jazz about Richt being the nice guy is fine, he doesn't have to know, my problem is with our boosters. They have to be somewhat irked that all these other SEC teams are winning MNC and UGA always ends up being the bridesmaid. They're the ones that need to do some shady shite, that way Richt and Co. won't have to take the fall, should problems arise.

If the NCAA decides that that is legit, then we probably would. I don't think the NCAA technically allows that, so Ole Miss would potentially have to prove that LT's girlfriend had some good reason to get the scholarship.
FTR, I was talking more about things like an indoor practice facility and things that the school could do legally. The coaches and the school should not have their hands on any type of dirtiness. That's a really easy way to get caught.
Boosters on the other hand... I mean, if that's how the game is played, then let's play it. I'm of the opinion the college football players should get some sort of consideration anyway.

Do we have any boosters who are willing to cheat on a larger scale? I know we did during the HW era, but where are they now? Seems like we're a small potatoes operation. They try to buy kids off with scooters while other schools are offering 200K or scholarships for friends and family.
Not that I'm condoning any of that behavior. It's all pretty disgusting, actually. It's going to be hard to compete, though, if we don't up the ante.

anyone else read the twitter article that Radi posted of Bellamy answering twitter questions?
Normally I HATE when an athlete sounds cocky, but this kid is supremely confident in his abilities and it makes me believe in him... pumped for the chance to sign him.

FTR, we have a brand new practice facility. Every school in the nation has a good practice facility at this point. I don't think that it matters much these days what your facilities look like. Most top schools are pretty much on par in that department.
I can't stand losing all this top talent. An old traditional ball coach like Richt just can't bring in the bacon anymore. You let 8 out of 10 top recruits in the state slip away, then something has to be done. I'm not impressed AT ALL.
If we wiff on Kamara, Adams, Bellemy and Green then we need to do some serious reevaluating, period. If Richt can't keep the top recruits in the nation at home and we always finish second, frick him and his little dog too.

Why in the frick should we strive to be like Oregon and Boise St?
Exactly. we fricking don't have to and shouldn't. A lot of talk about Ga approaching texas and Cali with the level of HS talent we are producing year in year out
We are quite obviously losing ground in the recuiting war in our own fricking state. the transformation into the Fullmer years for this staff is almost complete
Pretty soon we'll be having group recruiting trips where we meet a half dozen at one time instead of individual visits. to save on time and gas
Btw, what do you guys figure these last couple weeks of jetting around the entire south that looks to produce jack fricking shite cost the school? a couple hundred grand? serious question. I have no idea

Seems when we're good and deep, kids sign for playing time. When we lose our entire D and are one play away from a MNC, they sign for whoknowswhat. The one consistent thing is that for whatever reason, many of the states top players are happy to go elsewhere. 3 of the top 5 players in the nation are defensive players with Georgia ties. Two didn't even give us a courtesy flush and Foster didn't really consider going here imo.
Been like this for 25 years and I have no idea why. LSU gets all of the kids from LA no questions asked. Bama kids don't leave the state. I don't know....

We didn't wiff last year or the year before that. Every state loses top recruits here and there. Now the state of North Carolina got it bad.

Don't leave out Texas, California, Michigan, and Ohio. apparently Georgia is the only fricking talent rich state where kids are eager to get far away from there parents and play for rival programs, its downright unexplainable I tell ya

as long as we either keep richt, keep recruiting like we are stuck in the dark ages while every other school pushes the envelope or engages in shadiness, or both Georgia will continue to be the king of almost.
i swear to god georgia is like purgatory for college football fans. neither hell nor heaven, just bull shite. but hey, at least our super caring coaching staff tried real hard, which to be honest only makes it worse that they tried that hard and still fricking whiffed. it's not annoying that we pull in good classes, it's annoying that this program rarely ventures into great. and when it does it is typically beat the frick back into mediocrity by those far more competent.
anyway, anyone can knight for richt here if they like but just know it'd be wasted rhetoric because my mind's been made up forever. i just haven't voiced anti richtism in a while and right now it's making me feel better. frick mark richt. frick georgia double standards. frick the french too while we are at it.

Last year Bama took the #1 recruit from La. Do some research and see who left Florida the last couple of years.
Posted on 2/5/13 at 11:23 am to DawgRff
Last year, while we did land #1 and #2 in the state, we only landed 3 of the top 10 prospects from Georgia, including guys like Geno Smith (CB) and Dillon Lee (LB) that were at positions we needed.
We've pretty much been annexed by Bama.

I understand the frustration with his insistence to go by the old playbook on the recruiting trail, but CMR had us on the 5 yard line to go to the Natty. Can't knee jerk just cuz an 18 year old kid followed the money.
Posted on 2/5/13 at 11:25 am to DawgRff
LSU also took a top LB from Alabama. Quan Alexander from Oxford was a monster. The only reason he wasn't a top 25 recruit overall was because he shattered his knee halfway through the season. You will hear his name a lot in coming years for LSU.
