A
Finish 9-1, sneak into the playoffs, but then lose to Bama 42-28.

B
Finish 9-1, get left out of the playoffs but go on to win a NY6 Bowl.

We wouldn't play Alabama in round 1. We'd be seeded 3rd.

Why would we be seeded over an undefeated or 1 loss conference champion?

Ohio State was seeded 3rd in 2016 over a 1-loss conference champion (Washington) and didn't even win their Division.

That one is pretty tough. If Bama went on to destroy the team they play in the Championship game worse than us, I’m leaning that way.

But winning a NY6 bowl and having a good chance to jump the 3rd and 4th placed team to finish in the Top 4 and the end of the season so I don’t have to see that picture again of none of our Big 3 sports finishing in the top 4 might also be worth it.

Because it happened once in a different year means it would happen this year? Very unlikely. Regardless, a blow out less to Ohio State or Notre Dame.

Which would you take?

Sign me up for B.

Would rather go out with a win and not get smacked down by Bama again. Nobody remembers who 2-4 were in the playoffs a year or two down the road, they will remember who won the other big bowl games that season.

lol no we wouldn't.

We would be behind Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Alabama in any 4 team grouping and would have to hope for Alabama to slip to #2 behind and undefeated Notre Dame.

Maybe if the game against Bama had been close that might happen but since the game was essentially over at halftime there isn't a shot in hell we jump any conference champ as they currently stand. It would take one of them also getting blown the hell out. Right now the ACC is the more likely conference to get two in with Clemson and Notre Dame so we would need Notre Dame to beat Clemson a second time. The odds of the committee only putting in ACC and SEC teams is pretty much zero.

All of that said I think if we win out (and that's still a big if) we are more than likely headed to the Cotton Bowl vs either a Big 12 team (Okie Light, Iowa St, OU, Texas) or BYU.

Selfishly option B, I'd love to win 10 games and close out the year with a big bowl win.

For perception, probably option A (though getting skull drug in the playoff hasn't helped OU's perception all that much)

I lean towards this is I know we'll lose in the playoffs. But, it doesn't work that way. If there is any chance at a title, you 100% take it every time.

I want the lowest # next to Texas A&M in all the final polls. We could potentially be as high as 3rd in this scenario.

Me and a buddy had a discussion about this awhile back.
I think going 9-1 and making a NY6 and beating some one like a Cincy, Oky State or Miami would do more for 1) confidence and momentum into next year 2) recruiting, kids seeing hey they can win and they’re right there. I’d rather not make the playoff an get destroyed by a Clemson, OSU or Bama again. It does nothing for us IMO
