Quarterbacks: 2018

Mond can't even throw the ball away without turning it over or getting flagged for grounding.

Running Backs: 2002

While we didn't have a single running back from 2000-2002 with a 1,000 yard season under his belt, we at least had Ja'Mar Toombs from 2000-2001. Courtney Lewis (2003-2006), Cyrus Gray (2008-2011), Christine Michael (2009-2012), Tra Carson (2013-2015) and Trayveon Williams (2016-present) have all had 1,000 yard seasons while we had both Mike Goodson and Jorvorskie Lane from 2006-2008.

Wide Receivers: 2018

This is the first year we haven't had a real primary WR in a LONG time. The thing that separates 2018 from the early 90's is a complete lack of a receiving threat other than the tight end. Other notable WR include Leroy Hodge and Chris Cole (1996-1999), Robert Ferguson (2000), Terrence Murphy (2001-2004), Earvin and Jamar Taylor (2002-2007), Jeff Fuller (2008-2011), Ryan Swope and Uzoma Nwachukwu (2009-2012), Mike Evans (2012-2013), Josh Reynolds (2014-2016) and Christian Kirk (2015-2017)

Tight Ends: 2017. No need to go into depth here.

Offensive Line: 2008. As bad as the 2018 line is, Franchione left Sherman with 4 total scholarship offensive linemen.

Defensive Line: 2003. The only draft pick from that defensive line was Mike Montgomery

Linebackers: 2003. The 12th Man started at MLB. let that sink in.

Secondary: 2018. More targeting fouls so far than forced turnovers.

Punter: N/A (it seems we've always had good punters)

Kicker: 1998 (As bad as Bertolet was, Russel Bynum couldn't make anything beyond 36 yards)

2017-2018 is the first time we haven't really had a quarterback "stand out" in the last 30 years. From 1989-1991 we had Bucky Richardson, from 1992-1995 we had Corey Pullig, from 1996-1999 we had Branndon Stewart and Randy McCown, from 2000-2001 we had Mark Farris, from 2002-2005 we had Reggie McNeal, from 2006-2007 we had Stephen McGee, from 2008-2009 we had Jerrod Johnson, from 2010-2011 we had Ryan Tannehill, from 2012-2013 we had Johnny Manziel, from 2014-2015 we had talented players who were wasted and in 2016 we had Trevor Knight.

I distinctly remember the guys highlighted not being very good. I certainly wouldn't call any of them 'standouts'.

They were standouts in that they were clearly better than their roster competition at the time.

If you put Mond in a Slocum offense vs. one of the aforementioned QBs in a Sumlin or Fisher offense, who does better?

Corey Pullig...not being very good.

Umm... Wikipedia disagrees:
While quarterback, Texas A&M had, at the time, the longest active home game winning streak in the NCAA.

Pullig finished his career with a 33-6-1 mark as a starter, the most wins for any quarterback in Texas A&M history. He also passed for a school record 6,888 yards (broken by Reggie McNeal in 2005). Texas A&M posted ten or eleven wins per season while Pullig was quarterback.

Um, that 33-6 mark was because of the defense we had and competition we played, period. 6,888 yards in 4 years is not really anything to be proud of. The truth is, Pullig was not very good. He just had the fortune of playing on teams with dynamite defenses and running games.

Linebackers I would think one of the 2013-2016 Sumlin years would count. We had some bad backers in that stretch. Mastrogiovanni, or however you spell his name, was starting and he just flat out quit football at one point. Plus we had some injuries I think and Claiborne who got in trouble with the law.

I remember teams just running all over us.

Secondary: 2018

Any secondary with Trent Hunter or Jordan Peterson was worse than this year's group

Both individuals had more turnovers forced in one season than this year's entire secondary combined.

2003 was FAR worse. Once Jared Morris went down we had NOTHING. Repeat after me: THE 12TH MAN STARTED AT MLB.

2013 still had Steven Jenkins and Darion Claiborne
2014-2016 had Otaro Alaka who would have started in 2003

I mean yeah, otherwise these would all be units from the 50s-60s when we barely fielded a college talent level team.

You don’t have to go back nearly that far. He’s telling me our current receivers are worse than anything in the last 30 years?

Pierre Brown

Yes, but Franks and Taylor both have TD catches of at least 50 yards or more...something that only Buckley has out of this current group.

I hope this is a troll and you aren't this simple. Franks caught 1 TD all year. Taylor caught 2 TDs all year. Who cares if they were for 50 yards.
