at this point it's clearly obvious that Ennis was the one guy they absolutely needed to stay healthy.

I have no doubt the run D wouldn't be anywhere near as bad had he been able to go the entire year.

I think we completely lack a pass rush. That is easily the biggest problem.

also this

I can't exactly remember when our pass rush was this awful. There pretty much as to be a mental lapse on the opposing team for us to get any pressure on the QB.

not even close.

we rarely even make the QB leave the pocket this year.

in 2011 we finished the year with 51 sacks

this year with half the season over we have just 7 sacks.

Focus on the DT's if you watch a replay of the game. Ivan Robinson was drawing double team assignments a good part of the snaps he played and was getting driven off the line of scrimmage.

He is probably going to be playing heavily in the DT rotation from here on out with Ennis being lost for the year. He and the fish DT's have to hold their ground or we can't stop the run with even 9 in the box.

I want to see if he can develop with the playing experience he is getting now. This is his junior year in the program so he should be physically strong enough to match up.

well, our issues started waaaaay before that but yeah, coming into the season I'd agree.

Was having this conversation yesterday but last Dec 15th or so was JUCO signing day. We signed 8 guys. We were discussing why we didn't go more JUCO heavy in our front seven in that 8. But at that point we:

- didn't know for sure on Richardson (he was only injured a few weeks earlier)
- thought Richmond and Polo would be contributors
- actually signed another JUCO LB who didn't qualify (Flowers)
- thought we were getting Zadarius Smith (we could have signed 9 guys and had a spot for him)
- weren't sure if Moore was going pro and the coaches strongly urged him not to do so because they felt like he would frick up the combine
- Ivan Robinson and Julien Obioha hadn't gotten hurt yet. Both would miss the entire off-season workouts

That's just an awful lot to go wrong. Ennis's injury was just the point of no return

I agree but he's never been that great and he blew his achilles in March so he really didn't get to work his legs for 6 months. Legs are damn important to that fight at the LOS.

And we got really lucky with injuries and such last year. Just paying the piper.

Starting lineup at beginning of the season (regardless of suspensions)

DE: Obioha
DE: Stansbury
DT: Williams
DT: Ennis
LB: Jenkins
LB: Baggs
LB: Sanders
CB: Everett
CB: Harris
FS: Honeycutt
SS: Matthews

The only player in that group who didn't lose his starting job because of poor performance was Ennis. 2 linebackers and 1 defensive back lost their jobs due to poor performance.
