Why don't we use tempo anymore?

I'm watching Tech, and while it's apparent they have zero talent, I'm reminded of our Up-Tempo Era and surprised by the realization that we've abandoned it.

I liked it. It puts defenses on their heels, physically and mentally.

It seemed like it was central to Sumlin's philosophy, but now, watching us and then watching Tech, it's becoming clear that stressing tempo was Kliff's deal.

Kliff ALSO uses the middle of the field but that's a story for a different thread.

We do use it at times, but not near as often as we did a few years ago.

I will add 1 million onto whatever contract we can offer Kliff. He's one of my top 3 favorite coaches in college football. I was hoping they'd suck this year so we could get him back. Best OC in the country. Bar none

KK's playcalling is just so... smooth. He and Petrino are two guys with the playcalling equivalent of a Biggie Smalls flow. Spav is just that guy who says "uh huh" "yeah" "uh" in the background but still gets credited on the record, and we're the idiots who gave his talentless self a full contract as an independent artist.

Yep. That's what used to drive me crazy last year when announcers would constantly refer to us as a "hunh" offense. Sure we might have gotten to the line quickly but damn near every time the qb checks to the sideline. There isn't any tempo anymore. Kingsbury was the man. And sure he had better or at least more established players than spav, but the way they call games is night & day. I'm almost starting to miss McKinney.

i don't blame him for going back home, and would take him back with open arms. not in a mocking way, but i really thought and told tech friends that he needed more time. still think that might be true.

he was solid on play calling in 2012. i don't remember any of the frustrations i felt today that year, but JFF was the QB so that might not count.

I thought so too. I like the guy and think he has it in him to be a great coach, but Tech gave him the HC way too early. He looks like he might be pull it out, though. This could be a 7-8 win team, which would be a huge step for him.

After watching the game today, I think we're going to crush Arkansas. They defend the screen play like we defended the wheel route under Snyder. Spav's going to have a fricking field day calling that shite all game.

Irked by comments Bret Bielema made during a summer convention in front of Texas high school coaches, Kingsbury sounded off on the Razorbacks' coach, saying his counterpart "just got his arse kicked."

"(Bielema) stood up and said if you don't play with a fullback, we'll kick your arse, and if you throw it 70 times a game, we'll kick your arse'' Kingsbury said following Texas Tech's 35-24 win, referring to Bielema's comments at the convention. "(Bielema) just got his arse kicked twice in a row and probably next week by (Texas) A&M as well.

Yup, they'll still be dangerous because they have nothing to lose at this point, but if we jump on 'em early I think they fold. Losing to Toledo/TT took the wind out of their sails. And that injury bug bit them hard

Yep key is getting up on them early and forcing them away from the run. Letting them hang around would be very dangerous IMHO.

Exactly.

For too many years I've seen A&M be the team that other teams get their "bounce" on, even if it is a dead cat bounce.
