I'm not sure why people consider Mond a runner. He isn't particularly fast and he lacks vision as a runner.
There's no way Starkel pulls off that 89 yard run against Arkansas that Mond did (yes it was officially 79 yards due to the horrific incompetence of the referee)

The cold truth is that neither is good.
That’s something no one can say and everyone has to tiptoe around on TexAgs, but we can and should be honest here.

He’s a freshman and I don’t think Jimbo wants to throw him to the wolves. If he pans out he’ll play next year. This year we are stuck with the two-headed dragon of ‘meh’. But I think the dual deal doesn’t last long and he settles on the thoroughly lackluster, probably-not-Power-5-worthy Mond pretty soon.

I don't think Jimbo and Dickey intend to have whoever is at QB sling the ball around 40 or 50 times, be a hero and win the game. I sense that they want to be able to run the ball effectively and then work a play action passing game off that, with some deep balls mixed in. They may only really want to throw the ball 25 times a game. Would they have signed 4 RBs if they wanted to just air it out?
He may just want to find out who the better "game manager" is. Jimbo has talked several times about protecting his defense, which I take to mean he wants to win the time of possession statistic along the way to a victory.

He definitely wants to win TOP and thinks it’s correlated with winning. As do I.

Re Mond’s running ability: Jimbo said very recently that Mond “runs like a deer.” I think he’s got some juice. When the game slows down for him a little bit, I think we’ll see it.

It's not the be-all, end-all, but if you cash in the majority of the time you have the ball, winning TOP can be colossal.

I'd love to be wrong

Looks like we finally caught Jimbo in his first lie

Or did we?
FWIW my JD is on its last legs. I'm not sure Kellen would do better mowing my yard and he probably has better things to do this fall. So we may never know.

What Jimbo gets that our former staff just did NOT understand is that both sides of the football are CONNECTED. It’s not the defense in a silo and the offense in a silo, each doing its own thing independently. It’s ONE effort. Like combined arms doctrine. Whether the offense 3 and outs OR scores immediately, either way they are putting the defense back on field too quickly and leaving them out there too long. Sure, one gives you points, but when your defense is exhausted in the late 3rd and the other team starts pouring them on you the same way, did it really matter? UCLA? The spread is bad both when it’s dysfunctional and super-functional. The sweet spot is actually mediocre by its own standards because then at least you are taking time to move downfield. Coaches didn’t go to full-time 2 minute drill in the past because they were idiots who didn’t make the connection - it’s not something that didn’t occur to them; rather, it wasn’t considered a good strategic move because they knew it would burn up their own teams. That, and you forfeit control and put yourself at the whim of luck in a shootout.

I think Mond has the tools to be a special QB. While last year he was often inaccurate and slow to read defenses, he also put some amazing throws right on a dime. If the rumors are true that his consistency is vastly improved, I think he could be very good.
