He's shown himself to be clutch previously with the game on the line, I have no reason to doubt him.

I don't understand why a portion of our fanbase is still negative on him. It's not many but you still see people on TA calling on Sumlin to bring in Kyler mid game and bench Allen. Almost like some are rooting for him to fail so Kyler can start (not calling out anyone here)

Stolen from TA.

quote:

Early on in league play, here are Kyle Allen's numbers and SEC rank:

TDs without a pick: 4 (1st)
Comp %: 66.7 (1st)
Yds per attempt: 9.9 (1st)
Rating: 168.58 (1st)
Yards/Game: 340.0 (1st)

He is also 10th in the nation in overall passer rating, and leads the SEC in total offense in league play.

ive had this exact conversation with my friend. i dont get it. he is like the best QB in the SEC and because he isnt from the state of texas, people want him to sit. people at my work still go off on how they dont trust kyle to play well. it just boggles my mind how such a minority actually exists

I think the reason people don't like him is because he isn't as flashy as Johnny was. He is a great pocket QB and a good scramble threat, but they want the flashy again, and Kylar shows that.

I'm loath to use Kylar at all, to be honest. I think there is probably a reason Spavital hasn't had him throw, and I think it shows up vs Ball State.

Allen is bordering on great. He is a championship caliber QB and sitting him is a BIG mistake.

I believe the oline will allow too much pressure to reach Allen, and not being able to run the ball effectively will force Allen to press throwing a couple of bad picks. That mixed with our redzone offense and run d has me believing we lose by 14+. Just my opinion.

he supposedly had the green light to pass on a couple of plays vs Arky but checked out of them to run instead.

You saw what happened when a true freshman quarterback played against a heavy pressure defense when Drew Rosen completely shite himself against Arizona State.

Kyler is better than Rosen, but Kyle Allen is playing almost up to his full potential right now, including displaying mobility that very few of us saw coming. (Did anyone think that Kyle Allen would have a single rushing touchdown at this point in his career...let alone 3?)

I think Kylers ability to pass is going to bite someone, just don't know that it's Bama.

Kyle is playing great this year, he's confident and cleaned a lot of things up.

I would like to see Kyle do a little under pressure. I mean, I get it: pressure is supposed to force bad plays and give the defense a chance but even if the pocket barely starts to get pushed around we've seen Kyle get real jumpy and make some bad throws. But what QB doesn't?

I agree with y'all, way too many people on texags who are still convinced Kyler should be the starter. I kind of feel bad for the kid because everybody expects him to be JM 2.0 and if he doesn't live up to that.....

Long story short: Kyle is an excellent QB and give us our best chance of winning at this point. I really wish we would have redshirted Kyler to get some more separation between the two but that's not happening. 1st world problems that we have to pick between two great options at QB

I'm not sure I've seen him force bad throws at all this year. He's been pretty cool under pressure.

The Arizona state game he threw one to the right side that was directly to a defender. I seem to remember that the line was collapsing in the middle but I could be misremembering. And it seemed like in the second half where miss state turned up the pressure he had some throws that were very inaccurate. It's not a huge problem by any stretch.

He's forced some but he was worse about it last year (to be expected with a true freshman). Getting him those 5 starts of game experience last year was big for his development I think. He seems to be doing everything quicker than he was a year ago and making better decisions.
