Reading the houston board about sampson and you would think Houston was your rival.

We’ve largely ignored them for 30 years.

They blame us for why they are in the AAC even though it's Baylor, TCU, and Texas they should be pissed at.

They are about to be pissed at you guys after you steal their coach.

they blame the fact that they are not in a major conference to this day largely on us and UT, even when baylor stole their spot for all intents and purposes

We tried to bring them with us to the SEC 30 years ago.

In our defense, they were undesirable then and they are undesirable now to major conferences.
In the early 90s, their home stadium was the Astrodome and it always sat embarrassingly empty (unless they were playing A&M or UT ). Nobody watched their games and they couldn't offer anything to the conference that UT or A&M already didn't offer.
Today, their new stadium still sits rather unused for most games and their fans are very fair weathered. They will only watch if they are ranked or playing another Texas team. Conferences don't want a team that can't deliver their own market in TV ratings. Don't get me wrong, they get decent ratings in Houston, but that is it. A&M and UT deliver more (+ DFW, San Antonio, Austin). The fact of the matter is that Houston is an A&M town (say that to a Coog fan next time and watch them lose their shite ). We deliver the market in ratings and our former students are all over the place running this town.

There are two types of Coog High alumns; those that don't care about their school (majority) and those who are obnoxious about it (minority, yet highly vocal). You sir have found the hornet's nest of obnoxious Coog High fans.
The UofH peeps that don't care about their school have accepted that they settled for a commuter school. They know they didn't go to Rice, UT, or A&M. They simply settled and have moved on with their lives. To them, going to UofH was a business decision. That's it.
But the obnoxious Coog fan? What they lack in numbers, they make up in delusion. These are the same type of people who think UofH is just as good as A&M/UT academically and athletically (no seriously, they actually think that ). Every time you talk about A&M, UT or LSU, they'll make sure to bring up UofH. Not because it's relevant to the topic, but because they want you to recognize them. They also believe that A&M/UT are behind all of their misfortunes when the honest truth is we just don't even think about them (which makes them even angrier ). They're mad that A&M and UT didn't acknowledge their college applications and are pissed that both schools continue to ignore their mere existence today.
And that about sums up UofH alumns.

I've spent a lot of time at UH sports events for family reasons, and this is pretty true. They're either apathetic or gonzo hardcore and hate every other school in the nation like we're all direct rivals for the riches of life that should be enjoyed by Coog fans and Coog fans alone.

They interact with A&M fans more than any other school because of their proximity and the fact that Houston is an A&M town.
They think they're important because they are one of the flagship school systems of the state (We have 4: UT, A&M, UNT, and UH) but they're basically the Coastal-UNT.

Well, we have more than that but your point still stands.
