Thoughts? I doubt it happens but I wouldn't be entirely opposed to ou.

Sorry for the double-post. We both posted within a couple minutes of each other.

I feel like it’s gonna happen

I think A&M/MZ have the votes to block such a move
Posted on 7/21/21 at 6:08 pm to ColoradoAg
I hope so, I like things the way they are
Posted on 7/21/21 at 8:37 pm to ColoradoAg
I think arky and LSU would vote against it too
Posted on 7/21/21 at 8:50 pm to Ag_16
Why would LSU? I’m skeptical about Arkansas as well but understand why they would consider it
Posted on 7/21/21 at 9:00 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
I think it effects their recruiting dramatically
Posted on 7/21/21 at 9:04 pm to Ag_16
I disagree that it does, also think that’s a significantly lower priority compared to the money at stake
Posted on 7/21/21 at 9:07 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Add money and recruiting. I think it effects them a lot
Posted on 7/21/21 at 9:10 pm to Ag_16
?
LSU and every school is going to make more money from this, not less. If it’s less it would be a pretty easy no.

Nah
They’re not gonna suddenly be cherry picking La recruits.

Tbh I don’t know what I read there lol you’re right everyone would gain money. I had a legit brain fart
I do think it effects recruiting for everybody but I’m not saying they’ll cherry pick Louisiana I am saying maybe a few more 5 starts get pulled from Houston every year.

Hope it doesn’t happen because I like watching them flounder around in the mediocrity of their own making and don’t want to lend them a hand, but if it’s inevitable it couldn’t be a better time. Frick em. We’ll go get the recruiting advantage on the field.

It’s been fun as hell having the SEC be our thing and finding some success in the league. And there is no doubt being the only SEC program in Texas has helped our recruiting so there is a nervousness there. But frankly I think once that rivalry game comes back many Aggies will lean back in again and enjoy it. I hope the break and the generation it skipped keeps it from being such a focus like the Big 12 era, but that now becomes a SEC showpiece game so it will be a big deal quickly. It’s the sort of game that college football is all about.
Also I think recruiting will be a mixed bag. Yes OU and Texas will do better, but every decent player the other Big 12 teams used to get from the state will be gone. Soon what is left of the Big 12 will be a SEC minor league via the portal. Is there enough there for three SEC programs to eat? Will some of the players say Bama gets from Texas go back in the pool? These are the questions of the future but in the short term I think Jimbo can find a way to farm the new system.
It also makes the next two years critical. At best Texas and OU can’t get in until the 23-24 season probably given how this usually goes, which means Jimbo has two chances to win something big that gives us some momentum for this new era of football before realignment steals reshuffles cards that are in our favor. For years I have thought this actually, which is why I am glad we hired Jimbo. Part of me knew we wouldn’t get another coaching hire before OU and Texas crashed the party and one title could forever change our balance vs them.
For now I am kinda mourning the end of the window period where we “won” conference realignment. Between this and the players getting paid, it feels like the year after we finally started to have some post JFF success the whole sport changed around us. We couldn’t be better prepared for this era, but I find myself questioning my optimism for our program for the first time since I signed up on this forum. The SEC was a clean slate, an open door. From that perspective this sucks period.
And I don’t know about y’all but it reminded me of the time past, as when we joined the SEC these media renewals seemed way off in a far flung future. Heck in 2012 it was so far away it felt like Texas was fricked for basically forever for their own mistakes. It was a good time, JFF showed promise and I had just followed coach Sumlin’s advice to “get a dog” to celebrate our new path without them. That dog named Luna died of old age (she was a good girl) last week, JFF isn’t close to real football anymore and suddenly the GOR handcuff that kept Texas and OU in a rotting Big 12 has run off so much time that those two can swing a buyout of the rest. I will always appreciate the SEC era without Texas, but it’s crazy how quickly it flew by.

I wonder if in 5 years it will feel like the SEC turned its back on A&M and others with this expansion. It seems like A&M was welcomed much more than either will be this time around.

I'd prefer not to have tu join the conference, but I'm not freaking out over it. It did come a little bit out of left field for me. I wonder how it all is playing out.
Let's layout the reports:
-A&M very likely leaked the information about tu/OU wanting to join before it was fully done.
Did we do this to put pressure on tu/OU to make a decision. Are we stirring shite up in hopes it fails?
-Bjork made it clear his position was no tu. He also mentioned the bigger picture of the conference. I think this comment, along with the leak could just be bargaining chips. The last time around we gave into Arkansas to extend the Jerryworld Series and let their rival be Mizzou, while we got Lsu during rivalry weekend. I fully expect things like this will happen and in order to get our vote, we're going to push our weight around. Meaning we'll get the pod or division we want, we'll pick out rivalry week opponent, etc.
-Brent Z gave his opinion that this is likely happening and A&M would vote yes.
This kind of helps confirm my thoughts about us using this as a bargaining tool
-Reported that tu/OU will send a letter to the Big 12 stating neither will renew their media contracts when they expire in 2025.
I don't think it gets this far without the deal being very close to done.

Yeah I think the writing is kind of on the wall at this point. I’m more interested in how the conference is structured going forward. I don’t want to be in a 4 team pod with Texas OU and Missouri where it feels like we’re in the Big 12 again. That would suck
