We have chatted about Django before and about how good Quentin Tarantino makes seriously screwed up situations seem funny. That's probably one of the coolest movies I have ever seen and definitely will own it.
Recently, I ran across a movie I saw back in high school that was probably Tarantino's first movie ever (1993). Have you seen True Romance?
There's a scene that is totally NSFW and about as offensive as a scene can get, but probably one of the best scenes I have ever witnessed, and one of the worst (I think...I guess...I don't know). I am totally conflicted. It's just like Django Unchained in that things that are not supposed to be funny are funny and we laugh, but afterward are left asking ourselves whether we should be laughing.

Is this scene offensive to you? Doesn't this scene just completely frick up your moral compass? I mean, who is the racist? Is it the guy using race as an insult (why would he assume the other guy would be insulted), the guy who is insulted (why is being black an insult), the guy who laughed at how perfectly effective and hilarious the insult was delivered (me), or the guy who wrote the damn thing (QT)?
Why are some white dudes insulted by being called black? Does that kind of insult go both ways? Is it considered an insult for black, Native American, Asian, or Latino men to be accused of being white? Should they be? This has me seriously fricked up. Why the hell is that funny?
Damn that Quentin Tarantino dude!!! He's an a-hole!!! He is a master at making us laugh at shite we shouldn't be laughing at, but I actually feel LESS racial tension when stuff gets aired out like that. It seems like his blatant crassness and fearlessness provides a pressure valve. It's like there's so much stuff we're not supposed to talk about and we're not supposed to say or laugh at or think about, but he makes it okay for us to let off the steam when we're watching his movies.
Is that the same feeling you get from his movies?
And I didn't mean to offend you in any way, but I will understand if you tell me "shut the frick up, you racist, redneck, white bread, chicken shite motherfricker."

I think QT is a sick twisted frick and I love it. Yes he presents things that we as a society find uncomfortable in a different light. It is a twisted light but it will make you think if you are into subtext and not just his stark realism.

I'm not a QT fan or hater, but I have enjoyed quite a few of his films. With some of his racially charged scenes, he makes the audience choose to either laugh at events or be repulsed from henceforth. Basically he takes the suspended reality that exists on the silver screen and brings it damn close to home, so close that it can make you uncomfortable if you over think it.
QT is not the racist. We (the audience) tend to have our racist qualities revealed by our reactions to the subject matter, IMHO. it really does depend on whether you laugh because you agree with the events being portrayed, or laughing because the events are so ridiculous you can't believe they were written into existence.
Idk why it's an insult to some white people to be called black. Personally, I use it as a compliment. On the other side of that coin, though, I know what it's like for other black people to call me white for various reasons and mean it as a pejorative. To me such situations can be funny because it says more about the offended parry or the person trying to offend than anything.

Also, Quentin is a legend and all, but he is one serious awkward dork. Check out how he changes his mannerisms based on the level of pigmentation of his audience. Cringe-worthy.

It may appear that I may have committed one of my own pet peeves, where white boys ask general questions to one person, expecting him to be able to speak on behalf of all black folks, as if they all have a huge meeting and decide what they collectively think about every situation. BUT THAT IS NOT what I did. I asked ONE guy who likes some of QT's work, particularly Django Unchained, a specific question about his opinion of the guys work and how it affects him or influences his opinion. So, NO. I didn't ask a "what did all y'all brothas decide" question.
And the town in which I went to high school is 21.8% black. And I played DB on the football team and was the fastest player on the football team, and listened to gansta rap.
So, screw you!!!

As much as I love Django and have kind of cooped it as my e-persona, if I had to pick a favorite QT film I think Inglorious Basterds would barely edge it out.

Christoph Waltz was perfect in that movie! He stole the spotlight from Brad Pitt, and it wasn't even close. I would have to agree with you there. Pulp Fiction is in the top 3 for sure.
