I'll be the first to admit that I was in full meltdown mode on Dec 19th. At that time I thought we'd end up making some BS hire and slowly slip back into an irrelevant position. I was very down on Sumlin.

I know the Chavis announcement isn't official yet, but regardless, we are in great hands with Sumlin as our HC. He's clearly willing to make the CEO type decisions that will give this program every opportunity to succeed. He and our athletic department are willing to make the necessary investments to be an elite program. Whether we do become elite or not remains to be seen, but I'm excited about the future with Sumlin at the helm.

hope my celebration isn't premature.

I didn't melt but I never believed the Chavis thing for a second and still won't until he's on the press dais in an A&M shirt.

I was in full meltdown mode. I actually had entered the "I don't care" stage. I was convinced I was going to stop following college football so closely. Yeah right.

But I can't wait until this is official official. I am used to be jerked around. This summer, Chris Bosh to the Rockets was basically official, and it fell through. Tottenham Hotspur has given players physicals and lost them to other teams.

Wasn't close to melting about the recruits, but I was very melty about what DC we were going to hire. Still only 80% sure it's chavis, so not trolling until it's official.

Fortunately Chavis doesn't have to pass a physical. Hopefully this will be one more step in the slow process of eliminating the horrific disease that is BAS.

Folks, we really do have a ton of money. We really do have a great program with virtually unlimited resources. We really do have no excuse for not being elite. The biggest thing that has held us back is that we have allowed the perception others have tried to label us to become reality far too often. Aggies can be our own worst enemy.

It sucked, but I stated that I would hold my melt until a DC was hired.

Completely agree. Sports were a big factor for me when I was deciding on a college. I saw potential in A&M, and I was willing to go on sports potential to attend such a great institution.

I just can't bring myself to relax on it until it's a done deal. But when/if he signs, I might get sent home from work because some of the engineers I work for are LSU Alum. Thankfully the big boss is an Ag.

I tried my best to remain calm, realizing no one really knew anything and missing on muschamp wasn't the end of the world

I did not melt down because I suspected Malik was up to no good with the demanding a DC shenanagan. I think we could have hired Jesus (or Mohammed, ikd) as DC and Malik would have used it as an opportunity to undermine the new hire by committing to the fricking sips anyway. He was not going anywhere without hos butt buddy McNeal, who would have been about #15 on our depth chart.

Even if Chavis falls through, Sumlin acted like a cool customer throughout this process. He proved to be reasoned rather than emotional when reason was required. I like him even more. Dude is all kinds of CEO type material in business deciisions, but gets fired up when emotion is needed.

Agreed. That's why i said regardless of whether hiring Chavis actually happens. He didn't let an 18 year old dictate a much bigger decision, and he must have a great pitch to these coaches. I sometimes get frustrated with the Xs and Os, but that's not necessarily his job. His job is to put the right people in the right places.
