We performed better against Texas State than we did against NW State last year. Remember that we had a -2 TO margin after week 1 last year.

Negatives

The o-line needs to get it's shite together as a team with a legit defense would have eaten it alive tonight. Mond has a solid stat line but he still has issues with tunnel vision and missed 4 or 5 really big plays b/c of it. Corbin is serviceable but doesn't have that game breaker quality that can dominate a team. The d-line probably should have had a few more sacks. Too many dropped passes (mostly from Ausbon). Issues getting lined up are hopefully due to early season rust but this was a problem they had last year too so it's worth noting. Red zone issues lost at least two more scores.

Positives

Mond made some incredible throws and had some nice moves to avoid a couple sacks. The DBs are now turning their heads on plays which led to more picks than we've had in a long while. Isaiah Spiller looks like he has an extra gear that will earn him more PT. The WRs were getting open all over the place. Jimbo was on everyone's arse every time they messed up from the players to the refs. Calzada looks legit.


Other Observations

Loud crowd considering the opponent. Texas State band and dance team were more entertaining than most of the others that show up. Robert Horry sat a row behind me. His son is a TE on the team. The intro video is much better than last year. They played a truncated version of The Road Goes On Forever twice. Both times it started immediately after the part about Sonny selling pot. The chairs on the west side look weathered AF and will likely need to be replaced after this season. Wifi worked great and I was able to stream other games on my phone with no trouble.

He's at TE, and has supposedly done well in practice, though he's not expected to play much.

O-line better get their sh*t fixed in a hurry, several time during the game the broadcaster pointed out how three of our guys would try to block a single dude and another defender was running almost unblocked back towards the QB.

We saw both sides of Mond which is just par for the course. Some of those throws were amazing (the one to the back of the endzone that was dropped when the receiver hit the ground was a thing of beauty), but he also missed some wide open guys for what would’ve been easy completions.

Overall it’s just Texas state and basically was a glorified scrimmage, so I’m not sure how much we should take away from this one. We could’ve easily had another 14 points if we didn’t have the Rodgers fumble on the goal line and the one handed pick by their linebacker. A lot of people talking that Jimbo was keeping it as vanilla as possible to not give Clemson much film, hope that’s the case so we can give them a run for their money next week.
