there is a reason his only in state offers are houston, SMU, and baylor.

He was a +1 for a kid we aren't signing.

sub 6' kids who run ~4.6 are literally a dime a dozen.

Not sure where you’re seeing Jackson as faster than Lane, I see 4.73 listed for Jackson and 4.61 listed for Lane. I don’t think it really matters as Lane won’t be a downfield receiver playing in the slot. He seems quick enough in and out of cuts on tape but maybe it’s the competition. I don’t think Jackson will be able to get a ton of separation on the outside based on what I watched

I didn't say he was faster lol. I said almost as fast.

Kenyon's 40 time was for a kid who was 6'6 185 or whatever, he will get faster as he fills out. He's like a baby giraffe.

Kenyon's offers are:

TAMU
FSU
LSU
UF
UGA
Auburn

To become a starter or at least producer for an SEC team at WR you better do something at an elite level. Chase Lane doesn't have any elite attribute. There are 100 chase lanes in every class, and unfortunately his rank is probably a little inflated due to being committed to A&M. If he didn't have the Gunnell tag along offer and was committed to SMU he'd be even lower.

Not to mention Kenyon helps you start to build a pipeline into Grayson which is an absolute powerhouse playing at the highest level in GA.

He claims to have run a 4.4 40 fwiw, but he could be exaggerating. I don't think he's a stud, but he obviously has shown enough for the new staff to keep him on board (at least for now). And yes his in-state offer list is underwhelming but everyone's favorite WR of the week Kendrick Rogers was as bad, if not worse. Could mean nothing, could mean he's flying under the radar.

If a top 100 guy like Smith or Wilson wants to commit, I'm fine pushing him somewhere else. I would even be fine if they just decided to only take 3 receivers in this class with 2020 looking so promising.

I 100% see what you’re saying. That was true 9 months ago as it’s true now. If Jimbo needed more room then he should have given Lane a heads up back then. To do it now is wrong for a guy who’s been loyal and recruiting for you all this time.

If Fisher has a candor conversation and says “The last staff offered and accepted your commitment, but unfortunately we do not see you as a ideal fit for this offense. We can offer a preferred walk on and will welcome you to the program. If that does not interest you, good luck in your recruitment and I wish you all the best. “ then all is will. But he didn’t as far as everyone knows.

Lane may never contribute significantly on the field, but you still need glue guys in your recruiting class and on the team, and I think that is why they keep him.

He is our current longest commit, lives in Houston, and is friends with a lot of the commits, being so close he has made it to a lot of recruiting events also.

You don’t just cut lose that kind of recruit.

If he is close with the other recruits that would honestly be news to me.

It's September. I agree you don't just drop a guy in January, like Mississippi State did the QB from Texas a few years back.

Also I don't put much stock into loyalty when we're his best offer by a mile. Of course he's toeing the line.

Probably best to trust Jimbo and staff to navigate these issues and not speculate about trapdooring online.

Why speculate or discuss anything, right?

Part of what I'm saying is that the coaches know who they want - they evaluate independent of the star ratings, which we all get WAY too caught up on here.

All the "drop guy A in favor of guy B in order to raise our 247 avg recruit rating" crap is absurd.

Of course it is

However, on a macro level stars DO matter. 5 star players are consistently far more likely to be studs than 3 stars, and star ratings are driven largely by offer lists and camp performances.

It’s pretty uncommon to see a guy with a loaded offer list be outside the top 400 players or so by the time signing days comes around.

You're implying intent that wasn't there. Chase Lane as a higher rated recruit than Kenyon Jackson would still be my pick if we're going to lose someone.

He doesn't have anything that separates him from the crowd, including measurables, production, or offers.

There is another part of it where recruiting rankings matter for recruiting momentum because 18 year olds are very susceptible to the bandwagon fallacy.

— The Javonne Shepherd saga just got more interesting. Footwork King will not be heading to Austin this weekend, which means Shepherd will have to find another way to visit Texas. Again, he is still expected to make the game and could come with his high school coaches. But obviously, nothing will be concrete until Saturday. He is looking to officially visit A&M in early October, and the Aggies remain a threat to flip him, especially if Texas can’t turn things around.
