Kevin Wilson would be as big a coup as Chavis. His offenses at OU put up similar numbers to what Baylor's doing now, except 1) that was back when the Big 12 was still good and 2) OU played legitimate OOC opponents as opposed to Baylor's slate of Incarnate Word, Lamar, Buffalo, Rice, etc.

The 2007-2008 OU offenses were incredible.

Now that's a solid suggestion. West Virginia is 0-3 in conference too and won 4 games a couple years ago. I wonder if Holgorsen would survive a 5 win season

He would be a KK level OC IMHO.

To be fair we did get Mike Sherman

Isn't he a high school coach now? I wonder what amount of money it would take to erase the shame of being fired in a driveway and being hired as the OL coach of the guy who replaced you?

So w/the greatest QB in A&M history he would still get held under 30 by Florida, LSU, and Bama?

I don't want him as a OC. I ate enough tums in 2010 to last me a lifetime.

But JEEEZ we would be such worldbeaters right now if he would have been recruiting and coaching our oline the last couple of years. It sucks taking two steps forward, one step back.

That is not what I remember. I remember everyone being let down that we got an NFL retread that wasn't on the wishlist. He ended up doing much better than people predicted.

I'll take your word for it since I wasn't on the Internet message boards back then

I was a HUGE WTF moment. Huge.

I tried to Google examples for you on Texags but all I found was that me and CGSC have been fans of large posts for a long time.

No he wasn't. Everyone was depressed and angry about it. Pictures of him asleep at the combine were all over every thread that discussed it. I remember it completely differently. I've been a message board loser since 2001.

This.

I remember driving home from the Texas game on a Saturday and hearing Matt Mosley on ESPN radio in Dallas report it was a possibility. I laughed for a minute and put on some music b/c I thought there was no way in hell b/c Fran had just "stepped down" and surely there would be some sort of search. All the BMAs where I sit had been going on and on all game about the different possibilities they wanted to go after.

Then it was announced the next Monday. I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.

I was able to talk myself into it being a good idea right up until he opened up with a loss to Arkansas State. It was then that I knew.

Although, I will always give him credit for repairing the major damage Fran caused w/the Texas HS coaches.

I've brought it up before but Fran is the only coach I have ever heard multiple HS coaches bash unprompted once they found out I was an Aggie.

Haha, "Sleepy Sherm"

Agreed that there was no excitement over Sherman's hire. The general opinion was that it was a safe, good ol boy pick of someone we knew.

I flew back from Virginia, where I was living at the time, for the Arkansas State game.

Not because I was excited at all about Sherman, but because I wanted to see the dawn of the post-Fran era and soak in Franless A&M. If you can't tell, I hate Fran.

Oh man.

What a punch in the nuts.

And then on my way out I ran into an ex-girlfriend.

FML.

Sherman is a good man though and one HELL of an OL coach/recruiter. I wouldn't hesitate to say the best. He, somehow, despite coaching a totally downtrodden program completely overshadowed by 3 regional powers, that lost all the time, with zero to sell kids, managed to assemble an OL that was Top 5 in the country his last year and Sumlin's first two (the best there was in America Sumlin's first year). That's really impressive.

Stupid thread aside, I would hit the moneybags for Doug Meacham.
