Postmortem on USC

Short version: You need to go in '16.
Fans were very cordial. We had wimmens hollering out their car windows at us, "Welcome to Columbia!". Yeah, I can see that happening in Lubbock. It is entirely possible, of course, that they wouldn't have been as nice if they expected a 24-pt loss. But I don't think so - these were good people.
Very nice town with good eats. We ate at the Blue Marlin Wednesday night - the place was packed with Aggies, food (mostly seafood offerings) was delicious. It's in a nice area of town, where you obviously want to walk around. Outside was a band that was quite good. I thought the fiddler was going to catch on fire playing "Orange Blossom Special". That was epic - Charlie Daniels wouldn't do it any better.
I've seen fans of both teams whining about Yell Practice. My best guess is they weren't there. I originally thought holding it at the State House was a bad idea. But after going - it was perfect. The location drew hundreds of USC students defending their turf and shouting down the miked-up yell leaders. Impressive effort . Yell practice went off w/o a hitch, but it may be a good thing that the state troopers were out in force. We talked to a dozen or so students afterwards and they were all very friendly, curious about A&M. Good time. The only downer for me was watching the junior yell leaders hump the concrete. What the hell was that? Those guys can obviously do actual pushups. Why don't they?
Game day we ate at Maurice's BBQ. A bigger surprise than the game final score was that the mustard-based BBQ was actually quite good. I have no idea how.
The only downer of the trip other than pathetic pseudo-pushups was the traffic to and especially from the stadium. If not doing a real tailgate, take an ice chest full of beer in your trunk, a few chairs, and sit around for a few hours after the game. You'll thank me... well, actually, you won't, because you won't know the hellacious traffic you missed.
I'll definitely be going back. Great trip, and it would have been w/o the very pleasant surprise at the stadium.
ETA: I forgot to mention the stadium experience. Jackie tried to tell everybody that Williams-Brice rivaled Kyle Field for noise and atmosphere. I haven't always agreed with Sherrill, but he was correct about that. That place was pumped up, rocking, and loud. If the game had been closer... I don't want to think about that.
And another: I actually thought A&M would win, no lie. I certainly didn't expect that final score, but I did think A&M would win. But when they trotted out MOH guy and USC student Kyle Carpenter and had him talk a bit before the game, I thought "Oh shite. Didn't see that coming." And then Kenny Hill overcame the Kyle Carpenter jinx.

Thanks for the recap! Definitely hoping to make it in '16.
Seems like folks exaggerated the whole Yell proceedings. Kind of expected that tho.
Congrats to you and SafetySam on preserving your streak!

Glad you had a fun time! Next time check out palmetto pig or docs for BBQ. Maurice's is more of a local chain. Their stuff is ok but there are some great eats downtown that do whole hog buffet.
I'm hoping to make the trip to CS next year. My dad graduated Arkansas 77 so he's told me stories about some of the games from the old SWC days. You guys have had a bunch of tough teams. Don't expect it will get easier moving forward. Good luck the rest of the year!

Agree with you. We had a great time. If you are going to 5 points, do it early or do it in a group. As it turns out that area is kind of rough at night. No problems but the area has a rep.
Didn't have any problems at midnight yell. Just figured it was the usual shite from the larger fan bases. They didn't coordinate very well. Capital steps were a great spot as far as I am concerned.
Started off game day at the hotel with a visit from gov Perry. He made the rounds, took photos, etc.. Headed to TLC off Stadium Road just after noon. Half the place were Ags. Great time. Kelly the owner told us how bad traffic would be after the game. Game was fine, quite a few Ags around us in all directions in SC season ticket holder section. Not a nasty word. We went back to TLC until around midnight. Quite a few Ags back in there... Billy Lucci came by and said hello.
Overslept today and left late for Charlotte to catch Houston flight. Busted for doing 84 in a 60. Cop came back with ticket and reduced it to 69. Therefore, I really can't say I had a bad experience with anyone from SC on this trip.
We are going back for sure.

Thank you, sir. In fairness, though, it is actually a triumvirate. There's an F-1 '80 guy who has been to the same games, also undefeated. We coerced him into signing up here. Be on the lookout for DumbassClassOf80Guy, or something like that.

Nice report. I drove in right before the game, so I didn't get the full experience.
I had no issues with traffic after the game though. We parked on Bluff Rd south of the stadium and it is really easy to get out and to the interstate heading south.
My record isn't as good as you guys, but I've seen some good ones. I'm 6-1 (2012- AU, MSU, AL; 2013- Ark, Ole Miss, LSU; 2014-USC).

Our fault for not helping you out at LSU. Dammit.

Too log, but I read it anyway.

Spell, dammit. I can't make fun of you if you're going to be a bad speller.
I wish I had kept the exact quote because it was a keeper. Ancient and irrelevant? Something like that. Wish you had been in Columbia - we'd have had a damn good time.

I'm broke and had to work until 6 yesterday

Sorry, I sometimes forget how young and irrelevant you are.
Plenty more chances this year, but probably no chance to be at a "take that, bitches" game like this one. A&M won't be sneaking up on anybody else in 2014.

Possibly the best thing to come from last night besides the win

And my dad and I are going to Lamar next week to test out the new digs.

Love the Looch pic. Jealous of you over Lamar. shite, I haven't been back to CS in at least 20 years. I'd love to go. I think SafetySam's dad may actually force the issue next year when everything is complete. But I can't see getting there this year.
BTHO Lamar!!!!

Don't feel bad, I missed the second half for a meeting in Beijing. :(
