The fact that her belly button looks like it has fungus growing in it.......too much of a distraction

Urban Meyer last year?

Urban Meyer x3, Auburn, Texas with Radio ran a pretty spread influenced offense though it wasn't a true spread I guess, OU with Heupel, these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I do agree we need to be more varied in what we run out of the spread but I think that's changing with the hire of Christensen

And to answer the OP I question whether Sumlin can instill the mental toughness in our teams to take this to the next level
Posted on 7/8/15 at 10:11 am to Farmer1906
Yeah, but that isn't the "true spread" that we run. Urban Meyer's teams do have the ability to run the ball. We really do not have a commitment to any sort of running game.
Spav's only commitment is to a bubble screen.

Saying we need to run the ball more is much different from saying the spread doesn't win championships. I think we would all agree we need to run the ball more and more effectively, including our coaching staff.
There is no such thing as a "true spread" and what Auburn runs is a spread just like what Tech runs is a spread.

Nope.
First of all, we run the Air Raid and OU won a title running it in 2000. Second, multiple teams have won it with the spread: Texas, Florida x2, Auburn, OSU. Many more made it to the title game with the spread.

Alright here goes...
I don't really think Kaiser should win the Heisman.

Post something about our program that you would never admit on tRant
There are few things I won't admit on the Rant. Using humble self-depreciation to catch people off guard is my favorite technique. It is an easy way to lower the defenses, or even just lower the ankle biting intensity.

A&m will never win a national championship in a sport that matters in my lifetime.
By this I assume you mean football or basketball, as our women won a title recently already and baseball looks to be on an uptrend.

I feel like most students go to the games to do yells instead of watching football
That might not be optimal from a crowd noise standpoint, but I have always felt the effect of the crowd is overrated in football. Sure it has some effect, but its on the margins.
All those kids feeling socially obligated to go, or who go for the yells, build a love for close seats and the live event that will stick with them for life. As the whole sport looks at dropping attendance thanks to competition from TV, I don't feel worried at all that our recent expansion will be a "mistake" because our system breeds season ticket buying alumni unlike any in the country. To get there we kinda stuff the place like a spammer does to your email box, but spam exists because it works. Someone always clicks, and there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of Aggies who went to every game because of a social pressure who then care more about the program as a former student because of those forced memories.
Plus if you think about it, if we didn't have the social pressure and yells not as many students would come. If not as many student came their section would be shrunk. If their section would be shrunk that prime real estate would be filled by those same blue hairs on the west side that don't get off their asses on third downs to yell.
yell fanboy > sit the whole game bluehair

Our only rival in the thin.skinned department is LSU. They are just like us. We are so alike that we have been going at eachother to the point where everyone else on tRant not affiliated with A&M or LSU is munching popcorn waiting on the game in November.
The only difference is that there are so many of them on tRant that they're easy to jimmy rustle. For the most part, we are all keep it under control, but yes, we are thin skinned.
All of this

I think he has it in him but he has to command the full buy in, from the kids. We know he can get them fired up but they need to stay fired up, for an entire season.
I agree, there are times we come out of the gates with ridiculous fire like Bama in 12 and SC last year, and there are games where take a gigantic shite all over the field for a first half. There doesn't seem to be consistency in the buy in and intensity from the players. This might be a player leadership issue too, but ultimately it falls on him. This year will be telling I think
The 2012 team had a great group of leaders who were so monumentally pissed off from the year and offseason before that I think it masked this problem a bit

I was going to post something very similar to this earlier. We sort of have a minor leagues for future season ticket holding alum. It will ensure that the great love of tradition that's makes us the Anti tu continues indefinitely

I feel like we own 90% of first quarters that Sumlin has coached. We almost always seem to be up out of the gates.

USCe 10-7
Lamar 21-3
Rice 7-0
SMU 17-0
Ark 7-7
State 7-14
OM 0-14
Bama 0-10
ULM 7-0
Auburn 14-14
Mizzou 3-3
LSU 7-0
WVU 20-14
So in a year when we went 8-5, we went 6-4-3. Okay so not as good as I thought. Maybe I'm remember the previous years more so.
Skipping OOC
Bama 14-7
Ark 17-7
OM 14-7
Aub 14-10
Vandy 21-0
State 16-7
LSU 0-7
Mizzou 7-0
Duke 3-14
Assuming we won the OOC that's a 11-2 record in the first quarter.

It seemed to get worse this year, the first halves of OM, Arkansas and Bama were straight painful to watch. MSU we marched right down the field and just took a shite everywhere right after that it seemed like. It might not be an intensity issue instead of just a focus issue, I dunno, and again I know the veteran leadership wasn't there last year.
Overall it just doesn't seem like the whole team was buying in. This year will be really interesting

And having a DC who can prepare plus a clear cut leader at QB (which we had with Johnny when we were better early in games) might be all it takes to solve it
Posted on 7/8/15 at 10:39 am to ShaneTheLegLechler
Johnny and Mike carried us way more than we imagined.
But if Kyle Allen starts the season last year we go 8-4 or better and don't shut out vs Bama

the way our system has been developed by the 12MF w/the school's approval the last several years is going to cause quite a few former students to say frick it I'm not putting up with these assholes and this bullshite, I'll stay home and watch on TV.
You can only bite the hand that feeds you for so long and we are teetering on the brink of the breaking point.

Which game do you think we win if Allen was starting?
Unless you're saying we beat Mizzou or LSU if Allen had extra experience which might be true. I don't think we beat MSU with him and no way we would have beaten OM or Bama
