Nobody likes admitting they got beat straight up. Especially a good team.

But still...

teams always complain about not playing their best when they get beat by a better team.

i mean, they don't think playing against a better team had something to do with that?

They did and they were. Dropped passes were the most obvious. Our defense may have been flying around, but when a pass was thrown well and simply dropped, not much we can take credit for other than we were getting in their heads

They did have a few bad drops.

So did we, tbh.

Yup. Football is an imperfect game. Both teams will make errors, and in big games, errors are costly.

The winner will be the one to capitalize upon said miscues.

They took the opening kickoff of the 2nd half. On their first play from scrimmage they false started. After 20 minutes of rest, regrouping, and readjustment a false start penalty. Solid proof "we" were in their heads.

They didn't expect the defense they discovered any more than we did. We meaning we fat beer guzlling wahoos in the stands there. They were brain and body blown from the get go.

They did drop some crucial passes. Some certain first downs when they needed them. One that might have gone for 40 or more. To what extent our defense contributed to these is a question.

As has been said we dropped a lot of passes ourselves. That first pass of the game might have changed the game completely. Ratley catches that one and he goes all the way. Then the same Aggie D shows up on the subsequent series? The whole thing could have been more than it was.

Every one of us who watched the game knows that they were a good team. Their defense is almost perfect for the speed spread. Our defense played amazingly. And let's not forget that we played the whole game without our frickin' linebackers!

Your last sentence: absolutely! We were playing without some real weapons. If we can stay healthy and out of trouble at the right spots, this D could be really good.

The reports we were hearing out of training camp suggested our Defensive line was causing alot of problems for our offensive line. To the extent that the offense was having problems moving the ball and getting first downs.

That's basically what we saw on Saturday. Christensen has some work to do, especially on the left side. I note that we are still having difficulties on 3rd or 4th and short. That is frustrating.

On the bright side, Bertolet managed to convert every kicking opportunity...which is a victory, in itself.

QB passing accuracy seems hit or miss.

The team has a high ceiling if the offense can find some rhythm. I think we missed James White alot. He has more wiggle in him than Carson, and really added something extra to our rushing attack.

Ya I think with the next couple games I would like to see our oline settle down more, our dline probably is making it tough to gel in practice and ASU blitzed constantly.

That's how I see it, too. I've never been in favor of playing Little Sisters of the Poor but I think this may be a good time for it. Hopefully the two cupcakes will allow the OL to get their stuff together.

That, and 1) Stop dropping perfect passes, dingbats! and 2) C'mon Jake! Your goal line plays are horrible.

On the plus side (aside from the D performance nobody saw coming), who saw Bertolet going 6/6? That has to get you excited.

Seriously. Not a fan of his play calling inside the 5 or in short yardage situations.

I think they went conservative for Kyler, and he probably had options he didn't take. I agree it was very Fran v ou esque

What's the backfield looking like after Carson? He's gunna have to be a horse this year during SEC play so it'd be nice if he could only get about half of the 1st team snaps these next two weeks

Oh my dude, I definitely don't want to hear the dropped pass excuse from them.

While they DID drop some really crucial passes, we dropped huge ones as well. Frickn' Ratley dropped two, one of which would've been a TD. So, that's even.

They had a great D sceme for us that they executed well. They aren't lacking talent overall. It was a close, hard-fought clash for 80% of the game.

What wasn't even was that A&M had a playmaker on each side of the ball that ASU lacked.

On D, Myles so overwhelmed them that they were triple-teaming him, leaving other players open to make big plays.

On O and ST, Kirk was that Odin-level talent.

Nobody on Arizona State was bringing the thunder like our two game-changers.

We dropped passes bc we can't catch. They dropped passes bc the hammer was being laid every time they caught a pass and tried to look up field. JEV & Armani are so good. Our DE & Safety play is something special. The things they do just amaze me. Man I hope JEV & Dae play out their eligibility

Here's the difference: Our two big drops would have been a 40+ yard gain and 3rd down conversion.

Their drops were flat patterns with defenders within five yards.

Devante Harris. I was one of many who counted him out. Played a great game.
