i dont want to get into a thing about this or whatever, but while i agree that we have possibly reached a ceiling under sumlin, i think you are kinda taking that and running wild with it

Why would you think Kyle is mentally blocked? He played like a young QB.

I'm just tired of making all the same excuses every year. Until we start beating good teams consistently, and especially Bama and LSU, I'm just not impressed anymore. We wanted to play big boy football and pay big boy money but are scared to hold our program to big boy results.

We are paying Sumlin to win SEC titles. Until he starts doing that, I'm done excusing him.

Fran's firing had at least as much to do with off the field stuff as his results. The email scandal and player complaints of misconduct and abuse were a big part of that.

BS

That was all just pretext used to justify it and whittle away at his buyout. He was fired because he didn't win enough games.

I will say that reaching a 9-10 win ceiling similar to UGA (without the early SEC championships) is probably my biggest fear. I don't know what we would do or how we would react

we would probably keep him around, but i also think the vast majority of college football would do the same. you think gus' seat is anywhere close to being hot if auburn has won 9 or 10 games in each of his three years?

No, I just feel really bad for UGA fans The kind of run he's had is a statistical anomaly though. Most coaches like that eventually break through

We would definitely keep him around. I have no doubt about that.

He's definitely an anomaly. If you look at his record and ignore the absence of natties, he seems like a phenomenal coach who should be in the upper pantheon of all-time legends. At Georgia, he's 141–50 with a 9–5 bowl record and is 2x Coach of the Year. The fact that he never broke through and barring crazy luck doesn't seem like he ever will is mind-boggling considering that even Mack Brown eventually did.

We aren't making the same "excuses" every year. The first two years we played Bama, our offense was good to spectacular. The 2013 loss was all on the defense. The 2014 loss was a total collapse of all units. This year's game saw a defense play Bama better than any other team has; played them well enough to win. Our special teams were again stellar. But our QB, who hasn't had a bad game all year, had a terrible game.

You wanna know who else has had a bad day throwing the rock against a good defense? One Heisman-winning Johnny fricking Football tossed three picks against LSU in 2012. He was roughly as experienced as Kyle Allen is, had a vastly better offensive line, and still didn't even account for a single TD that day. And everybody's man-crush Kliff Kingsbury was calling plays that day.

I'm not saying we don't have problems, but those of you who expect us to start regularly beating programs who have been recruiting much better than us for years need to reset your expectations.

It would be one thing if Sumlin were too stubborn to change. But just this year he hired Chavis and Christensen. I really don't know how you look at the big picture, and can't see good things coming.

Unless you are little Nicky of Urban you basically average 10 wins yearly then break through every so often. Of course every situation is different and some coaches don't break through, but as long as we are making runs at a title every so often then I think we'll be okay.

Bobby Bowden took 24 years to achieve an unbeaten season. Though only 18 to win his first MNC.

Incidentally, Bowden's average win totals for the 17 years prior to his first MNC in 1993:

8.47

Is there any scuttlebutt about Kyle being injured? I know he looked like he was favoring his shoulder during the bama game. we got any indication if that is carrying over?
