Beating Ole Miss would shock me.

Bama was quick sand for Kyle. We didn't stop the run in the 1st quarter so he felt like he had to make some things happen. Add that to the mental block 59-0 represents and getting smacked by Ragland on one of the first series and he was shook.

He said he didn't want to go in against Bama last year, that sort of thing sticks with people.

Scenario 1: We get pretty good or merely competent performance from the QB position, whoever that is. We tackle their RBs. Then we have a decent chance of getting a W.

Scenario 2: Ole Miss players cleverly taunt our team, saying "This IS a big game, you know." We consequently get incompetent play from the QB position. We make no name Ole Miss RBs look like Fournette. Trainers have to perform Heimlich Maneuver multiple times. We leave Oxford with the loss.

It could go either way. We'll know which it is by midway through the 1st qtr.

I expect an erratic performance from Allen. Might even get temporarily relieved, for the 4th time this season. Both teams will score in the 20s. If we win, it will be from our defense making a key stop or getting a turnover in the 4th. Maybe Bertolet comes through for us.

It tells you how shaky we are at the QB position when you can make an argument that Brandon Harris or Jacob Coker might be a significant upgrade at that spot for us. Those two probably won't go out and win the game for you, but you can confidently believe you can with them.

Both have well known limitations and a stout running game behind them, but seem to be mentally tough and haven't sabotaged their own teams' chances. Sometimes that's enough.

Ill go out on a limb and say memphis has a better offense than we do at this point in the season, and a better quarterback.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you haven't watched them play for more than 5 minutes of highlights this year.

Memphis has put up some gaudy stats sure, but stop a moment and look at who they have played and how they did against them.

Of particular note is the Cincy game. If you go back and watch it you will see it may as well have been a 7 on 7 game. Neither team had a pass rush worth a damn. Even more damning for Memphis is the bulk of the offensive damage done by Cincy was by their backup QB. Gunner Kiel went out with a concussion near the end of the 1st. In about 3 quarters freshman Hayden Moore tossed 557 yards for 4 TDs (2 INts). This is not a team that should have been able to hold Ole Miss to just 24 points.

I'm sorry, but if A&M has the teams Memphis has played they are going to throw a shite ton of points on them too.

Ole Miss threw up a ton of points on Fresno and UT Martin but after that they really have come back down to earth. Their Bama win was aided by 5 turnovers and they STILL nearly lost.

Their defense hasn't really shown much of anything against anyone w/a pulse when the opposing team isn't derping the game away. They even struggled with putting away a Vandy team so bad it lost to Western Kentucky and nearly lost to Mid Tenn St.

I just don't understand all the deference y'all are giving a team that is 2-2 since beating Bama, got smoked in both losses, and looked terrible in one of its wins.

This.

And Cincy was driving for the tie with damn near zero resistance from Memphis until their backup QB inexplicably just tossed the ball away to avoid a sack. That ball caromed off the hands of his intended target before it was picked, too.

Ole Miss is not a good team. They got beat by a fool's gold team. That's not to say OM can't beat us (especially if we continue to complete touchdown passes to the other team), but they SHOULDN'T beat us if we play even an average game by our standards.

Our fans might be the worst fans after a loss. The idiotic crap I read and hear make me question the intelligence & football knowledge of our fanbase.

Our fanbase is one of the most intelligent in the nation if they're at the actual game.

Only fans worse than us after a loss (or, hell, even a WIN) is LSU. By a damn slim margin

Nah, we have some serious problems that need to be fixed. Our oline play is putrid, and while we played the run better, it was after Bama's center went out, the same center who calls the blocking and protections, I'm quite sure that had a large part in it. We can't run the football against any sort of decent defensive front so all they have to do is pin their ears back and go after the qb. When they get to the qb he goes from being the best in the SEC to happy footed thrower of balls the jolly green giant couldn't go up and get.

These things make us a below average team and the absolute lack of offensive identity added to that makes us a mediocre to bad team.

No I'm not being pessimistic, that's just what I see, take it or leave it.

If this team is below average to bad there are only about 6 or 7 above average teams out of all 128 FBS schools and going by your definition Alabama would not be one of them.

They had a bad game. Period. It happens. But to throw your hands and and act like we suck? Good lord. Get a grip. The sky is not falling, the season is not over, and this team is a far better than you are giving them credit for.

This. We have one player that has a terrible game, after having stepped up in prior big games, and people lose their mind. Johnny had a similarly terrible game against LSU in 2012 and now its such a blip on the radar.

Am I asking our fans to be happy with a loss? No. But take a step back. Who had us going 12-0? Or 11-1? Or even 10-2 (which we still have a great shot at)? If you're going to lose your shite anytime we figure out that we're not winning the natty, just save yourself the heart attack and stop following sports.

Dude it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I hope I'm wrong but they are going to have to show me. Like someone already said I'm tired of putting any hope into these teams only to hear next year is the year. I've said from the start it's going to be 5 to 7 years til we can compete here and we aren't there yet, hence we aren't a good team.

I'd like to point out the people saying we are fine are just flagrantly ignoring every in depth analytical post describing our serious flaws. They simply don't bother addressing them.

If you are referring to me, I am well aware of our issues. Run D, WR separation, OL play, a play maker at RB, Allen shitting the bed, health, LBs, and play calling.

But we also have a lot of strengths. There is a reason we beat ASU, MSU, & ARK. Those aren't elite teams, but all 2/3 will likely win 7-8 games and make a bowl.

It's not so much that we are world beaters, but that everyone else has as many or more issues as well. The teams aren't who we thought they were 6 weeks ago.

We were in the game with Bama well into the 3rd Q. There were still chances in the 4th. Think about that. As "poorly" as we played we still made enough plays to be in it.

Special teams - great
Defense - good (poor tackling)
Offense - average/poor, Bama tends to make everyone looks silly, but we only had 1 penalty.

Ole Miss has issues as well. We did much better against the run when Bama's center left the game. Guess what, Ole Miss lost theirs to a torn ACL in the Memphis game. It gets better. Hopefully we learn and take advantage of everyone's down year. This year isn't over for us.

The reason we beat those teams is they aren't very good. Arkansas will struggle to make a bowl, MSU will win 1-2 games against the other six teams in the west and ASU is a mediocre PAC-12 team who their coach overhyped in preseason.

The good news is we can still win 9 games by beating nothing but average/bad teams. The bad news is that won't really reflect well on Sumlin in year 4.

Since Alabama in 2012, Sumlin's defining win, we are 2-9 against teams who in hindsight had talent equal to or better than our own.

Sumlin has inarguably been bad against genuinely good teams.
