It used to be that coaches could wait until after the senior year in high school to evaluate and recruit players. But those days are over. I'm not even sure how useful these recruit rankings are in the summer before the senior year.
I think the coaches rely a lot now on getting them on campus to a camp setting, or observing how they perform at these 3rd party camps.
Imagine if you were an NFL GM having to draft college players now before what will be (or could be) their last season in college. Would you just trust Mel Kiper's "star rankings" of college players to build a draft board?
Or would you watch as much video, talk with them and their coach as much as you could, work them out individually, etc.? College coaches have this kind of challenge. It's not easy. But I get why they want to trust what they see with their own eyes over a number on 247 in June.

BL thinks it’s likely A&M but he also says king has kept it quiet and hasn’t informed either staff.

Probably the most hyped I’ve been about a possible QB since Kyle Allen so not sure if that’s a good sign. I think his athleticism/IQ in Jimbo’s offense will be an incredible combo. Really hope we land him

BP is saying pretty much the same thing, he is still sticking with A&M, but said it wouldn’t shock him if he picked UT.

after so much initial worry when he first committed, its so nice to see that demas is seemingly all in and recruiting for us like he has been. we will see what happens when the fall comes around and he starts taking OVs but things seem pretty worry free with him right now

Demas will be playing for us next year so people need to cool their BAS when it comes to him.

TA is saying demas went live amd hinted that the good news he was talking about was Haynes King committing. Also said him moose and troy o are trying to EE

It still has nothing definitive as far as where he’s leaning. I don’t take much from it. Seems like a coin flip and hope it goes our way
