Could see how he won the starting job, didn't watch much of the fourth but I do remember the first third down passing situation Starkel was in during the 3rd and he threw it straight into double coverage, it was off target or it would have probably been a pick.

You won’t have to wait long, dude is gonna have four future NFL starters chasing him around next Saturday.
Mond might seriously consider taking out a life insurance policy this week

quote:Both of which were telegraphed. QB should have called an audible in both cases. O-Line NOT to blame.
2 unblocked blitzes with free hits on QB
quote:It is a pussy rule, but it IS a rule. I agreed with one of the calls and disagreed with the other.
2 players ejected for targeting
quote:Probably true, but need to keep one eye on the QB while in coverage.
I think the frustration with the DBs is overstated.
quote:I agree, except for failure to identify blitzes and stunts and to audible accordingly.
Mond had good decision making. Crisp and correct. No turnovers

Thank goodness both targeting calls were in first half

Every single thing I read about Elko in the offseason is that he’s bend but don’t break. Giving cushion and fewer sacks is to be expected from him.

Every defense at the college level that can’t overwhelm the opponent with talent is bend don’t break. Between modern offenses, the best athletes generally playing offense instead of defense these days and the current rules it’s just impossible to consistently shut down a team with comparable talent. In 2000 you had to hold an opponent well under 300 YPG to crack the list of top 10 defenses. I think only two FBS teams last year hit that mark.
Clemson and Bama are just so loaded on defense that they can do it, but almost nobody else can. Even Georgia his got torched by good spread offenses last year.

Blessing in disguise, my BAS kept telling me some contributor was going to get injured during the meaningless part of the game.

Ok got a couple minutes free. I didn't get to watch, stupid hotel didn't have SEC network, but radio call made us out to be superhuman. I know that's not true but I hope we were solid fundamentally and how bout them tightends.

We were ok. Started slow about like I assumed we would. Beat an overmatched team badly, which was nice for a change. No turnovers, just a few obvious blown assignments. OL is a concern for sure. QBs were serviceable. Defense didn't do much, but they also didn't give up many big plays.
Left the house and drove to friends in the middle of the 3rd Q. The new radio announcer (Monaco) is freaking awesome. Painted a great picture.
Also saw coaches actually coaching guys on the sidelines even after touchdowns. It wasn't just high fiving, it was actually "yes you scored, but you ran your route this way instead of this way". I had tears in my eyes watching that!
Can't see us being competitive with Clemson or Bama, but hoping I'm wrong. Still think 7-5 this season.

This is the kind of game sumlin wins 38-17
We looked pretty clean for the first game with a new offense and defense.

This was my exact reaction. Still sticking with 7-5 until we play a team with a pulse, but that was a good showing.

i dont know about good but it definitely wasnt bad which is good enough. didnt see anything that gives me any confidence for having a better year than expected but also didnt see anything that gave me any fear of being any worse. still think 8-4
also, for the love of god, can we please do something about the exposed concrete around the new 12th man letters

Would you describe Chief’s style bend but don’t break?

38-17 with it being like 24-17 midway thru thru 4th.
Either way, in the history of a&m, including vs cupcakes this is the second most yards of all time, and in the history of the sec it tied the most first downs (40) ...
No matter the opponent, they played well.

Chiefs defense is fully predicated on being aggressive, send all kinds of pressure and leave corners on an island. Negative play and turnovers vs giving up big plays.

That was excellent to see.

Exactly. High risk High Reward. Elko’s stats show that he limits big plays and gets off the field. But sacks and TFL’s are low.

I usually don't bitch about aesthetics, but that shite looked HORRIBLE in person.
