He had games like this last year (Auburn and Mississippi State come to mind, he was also real bad in the second half vs LSU).

No one really paid attention because we rolled them but Mond was pretty bad vs NCSU too.

We started mauling them once we stopped even trying to pass. He threw for -2 yards in the entire 2nd half on 3 attempts. The only drive we didn't score on he threw twice (both incomplete).

That's one reason why I'm not too worried. We physically whipped NCSU. We're going to do that to a few teams this year and good or bad Mond just won't matter.

And if we can stay within striking distance of Clemson with Bad Mond, our downside is pretty low.

Great post! I'm not going to defend Mond because he made mistakes that a QB with the amount of starts he has just can't make. However, that didn't bother me too much. I'm not one that has ever really thought Mond could be the guy to take us to the playoff.

I came away fairly encouraged because we executed pretty poorly, and despite their best efforts, the best team in the country couldn't put us away until the 4th quarter. I saw a lot of improvement on defense, we made mental mistakes, but those can be fixed. We showed that we are building some quality depth on the D-Line and Linebacker. I thought the offensive line showed nicely against a really good front 7.

Sure, it's always frustrating when we lose, but I never expected to win this game. Overall, team health is a bit of a concern. However, I feel really good about the matchup of our defense against Auburn's freshman QB.

Count UGA, LSU, and any other decent team on the road as a loss. Dude is just terrible outside of Kyle

We might be able to out physical some teams on the schedule but eventually we are going to run into decent teams that can stop the run and will force him to pass. If he then has a bad game like Saturday, we can lose to teams that we shouldn’t (like miss st).

I’m not sky is falling yet like some people but it’s disappointing to know that we are a good/consistent qb away from being a very good team. I guess I also still am a bit miffed about Jimbo’s whole “QB whisperer” persona. Mond is not any better today than he was in the games he started under Sumlin. I think he has the physical tools: he’s got the arm strength, he’s got decent speed to be a dual threat, but his problems just seem to be all between his ears. Thought Jimbo would be able to correct that and work on it but so far we haven’t seen it.

He was worse than he was yesterday every time he stepped on the field under Sumlin.

I’m hoping calzada gets more game time against Lamar

I'm more than a little concerned about bowl eligibility.

I'd like to get calzada some reps so we can see what we have under the lights before defaulting to haynes king next year. I think king is good enough to get where we need to be, and the schedule sets up well for him to learn on the go.

I have to give you credit for an excellent troll here. Having said that...

This is hilarious. Mond was absolutely atrocious in 2017. He had a QBR of 23.8 yesterday. That's not great, but he posted QBR's of 3.2 (Auburn) and 5.2 (Miss St.) in 2017. He averaged 47% passing and 5 yards an attempt against P5 teams and, outside of Alabama, those weren't elite defenses on our schedule. He isn't where we want him to be but to suggest he hasn't improved, especially as a passer under this coaching staff is laughable.

This is a good point.

We need Mond to get us over the hump against good teams, but the rest of the team is good enough to render his mediocre play (in some games) meaningless.

We won’t beat bama, but we have at least a shot at every other game. 9-4 still the ceiling,

You and roger agree. He worded his comment poorly.

Just listened to the hour-long conversation between Looch & Hunter Goodwin. Hunter spent quite a bit of time pointing out examples of lazy-arse or inadequate route running by some of our receivers. He said this a number of times last year, too.

So why then aren't we seeing more of Preston, Chapman, Wright, Brown and Jackson then?

Beal was absolutely terrible vs Clemson. Way worse than Mond or anyone else.

That could be why Wydermyer started and played the majority of the snaps on 1 TE sets.

Trevor Wood couldn't catch for shite last year either.
