First -

1. Like it.

2. Don't like it.

Second

1. Think it will implode before end of next season

2. Think it will implode within 2 years

3. Think it will work for 2+ years

Third

If it implodes but offense is noticeably better do you think Fisher will resume play calling long term or will the offensive output improvement make it impossible for him to resume play calling again?

I will go first and put it on record since I posed the question:

First, I like the hire.

Second, I think it will work if the offensive output jumps and we can score points again. If Ags have big improvement in offense there will be no implosion.

The bright side for me and the reason I like the hire... Petrino is his own guy (for good or bad) and will flat argue and tell Fisher to go frick himself. If it implodes within 2 years I doubt Fisher survives which is fine by me.

No need to get on a high horse about Petrino and how bad of a person he is. Not a single person I know thought Jameis Winston should have been allowed to play under Fisher. Pretty credible rape allegations, caught stealing, etc... Fisher defended him and put him in the games to win. So, save the hypocrisy.

Don't like it, but it's better than not hiring an OC or promoting internally, and probably one of the best OCs we could hire considering the circumstances Jimbo has created

I think it will be fine, probably not great but not an implosion either. Don't think it's sustainable long term either

What if I neither like or dislike it? I’m alright with the hire, there’s certainly worse ones we could’ve made, but do wish maybe we got someone with a little less “baggage”.

I think the hire will work out until Petrino moves up the chain to his next stop, I think most of the drama on the rant is overblown thinking there’s gonna be some fistfight or something in their future.

I think Jimbo is done calling plays, whether here or at his next stop if we fire him. Hopefully I’m not Charlie Brown with the football, but I do think this poor season has made him realize he needs to make sizable changes to how he runs his football program, and not calling plays is issue #1.

I think Fisher had some bad apples in the locker room that he couldn't take care of short of suspending them because he's too hung up on play calling. I agree he won't call an offense again as a head coach. Different world these days in CFB

If Petrino is a failure and we fire Jimbo next year, I could see him calling plays as HC at West Virginia in 2024

2 and 2*

I wanted somebody much younger who has a fresh take on the game. Instead we get a guy who is 4 years older than Jimbo whose best days are well behind him. He'll probably do well enough to get us back to 8 regular season wins. We'll get an upset here or there but also drop a couple we shouldn't b/c he'll abandon the run.

Unless Petrino totally bombs out in the first part of a season, Jimbo takes over, and then proceeds to crush it I think he's done calling plays here.

schedule the next two years is

2023
09/02 New Mexico
09/09 @ Miami
09/16 ULM
09/23 Auburn
09/30 vs Arkansas
10/07 Alabama
10/14 @ Tennessee
10/21 bye
10/28 South Carolina
11/04 @ Ole Miss
11/11 Mississippi State
11/18 Abilene Christian
11/25 @ LSU

2024 (may change if OU/sip leave Big 12 early)
08/31 Notre Dame
09/07 McNeese State
09/21 Bowling Green
09/28 vs Arkansas
11/16 New Mexico State

TBA @ Alabama
TBA @ Auburn
TBA @ Mississippi State
TBA @ South Carolina
TBA Georgia
TBA Ole Miss
TBA LSU

*Petrino should be good enough to get us to 8-4 next year which will still be disappointing but will be good enough that plenty of people will start guzzling kool aid again. Hopefully it's not good enough for Petrino to up and leave right away but I wouldn't be shocked w/how tough '24 looks on paper right now. Either way I don't see Petrino lasting more than two years as he's surely thinking this is a way to get another FBS HC job. I don't see him leading us to a losing season but I also don't think he's going to lead us to double digit wins.

I'm sure the fanbase will put Jimbo in a very bad place if he decides to call plays again, so if this implodes, he has to look for a new OC. His time calling plays (imo) is done

First am intrigued. Neither like or dislike at this point.

Second
I think it will work for a couple of years and he will move to a HC job somewhere.

Third
I think playcalling will always be the OC going forward. I think Jimbo knows this and is why he got Petrino. If it works out I think he will realize the huge help it is.

The reality is that coaching has been for years what playing is now. A purely mercenary endeavor for most people. Period. You are not a fan of the players, etc. It's whoever is wearing the jersey today. But that isn't a reciprocal agreement. For a few pesos, that same guy will be on the other side of the line next year. Just wait until there is an open window mid season!

Yeah...not worried if it goes well enough for him to get a head job somewhere.

Now concerning players...I really wish there was some standards and regulations. If they want to be pros then the whole set up needs to work that way.

100% on the schools.

They don't want to classify players as employees for financial reasons, so going forward, they have zero control over player movement.

Absolutely a 1…. While at Arkansas, he got them to a 10 win season and an 11 win season.

To see all the Arky posters saying Petrino is going to light it hope… gives me a ton of hope.

Maybe Petrino can also teach Addizio how to coach up the offensive line.

I’m ok with the hire. I don’t love it, I don’t hate it. I’m willing to give it a chance, it could work out great and I hope it does but if it doesn’t work that’s it for Jimbo IMO

3 unless he gets hired away after helping turn the Ags around

Petrino has a great offensive mind and he is a very good play caller. He's never had talent like this and, since Jimbo got here, we've never used the talent on offense like he will.

Let's go!

1.
3.

As I mentioned before, I have a morbid curiosity about how the relationship will pan out. I'm hoping there will be a symbiotic or mutualistic relationship between petrino and fisher and not a predatory, commensal or parasitic.

As both of them seem to be the same person, and given their age and past transgressions I think they can work well with each other for 2-3 years. That would at least get us to a decent buyout to wash the whole program if needed.

Regardless I've got my seatbelt buckled and I'm ready for the ride.

1, 3 with strong possibility of BP moving on to a HC job in a couple of years. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised at our improvement year over year and think +/- 9 wins is my best guess.
