Yeah there's a facet of TAMU fans who want to act like Sumlin was the wrong hire all along, and revel in his post-A&M struggles. I don't agree with those types. Kevin Sumlin was absolutely the right hire at the time for thr conference switch, and brought swagger/confidence/whatever you want to call it to a program that otherwise could easily have gotten in over its head QUICKLY coming into the SEC. Sherman wouldn't have done that. A guy of Jimbo's caliber wasn't coming at that time. So it had to be someone like Sumlin who had an irrational confidence that the program frankly fed off for a few years.

I have only animosity towards him for 1 thing, UCLA

I'd already made peace with him being gone at that point, I think. The State loss in Starkville when we were ranked #4 is what broke me RE: him coaching us. At that point, I knew he had nothing left to give. UCLA was just icing on that cake.

He was the right hire at the time...but the extension with no buyout after 2013 was absolutely the wrong move.

Agreed. That was handled poorly.

You forgot that Charlene Sumlin definitively claimed it was the A&M community that did it with no proof.

Did she though? I remember you bringing this exact gripe up and saying "well, she didn't say this wasn't an Aggie" as your excuse for being mad about the letter.

And even if she did squarely say it was an Aggie, it seems like a petty and stupid thing to be mad about. The woman has a racist letter sent to her and some of you weirdos instead got caught up on "intentions" and the authenticity of the letter (remember how everyone kept dissecting the stamp and bar code?) instead of just condemning the letter and being done with it. The fact that the response was not 100% supporting of her and the Sumlins was awful. We had dudes blaming her on TexAgs and on this very site. Some even went as far as to blame his kids on TexAgs for fricks sake! Her twitter feed got toxic for a minute there.

Don't make me pull up your posts with your asinine assessment of the letter. You were one of the idiots claiming it was fake without any evidence. Instead of offering your support, you called Charlene a "virtue signaler" and claimed this was used as an extension tactic without any evidence. Your intentions were clearly to discredit the letter by smearing Charlene and placing doubt on the letter's authenticity as if it was an inside job.

You're a real piece of work .

I think his gripe about that incident is fair. A lot of fans came after Charlene and questioned the authenticity of the claim itself.

The other people who were victims of that stalker went to the police and got the guy arrested so he wouldn't do it anymore. Sumlin and Charlene, instead, went to Twitter and blamed Aggie fans who made them millionaires. It was a multi-million dollar joke. What kind of people turn on the fans who made them multi-millionaires?

You do realize she went to the police too, right?

If you know something that would shed a positive light on the situation, go ahead and say it or post a link. I can't tell if you know something or are just playing semantic games.

Is this where I post the Neil DeGrasse Tyson "We got a badges over here" gif?

Here's a hint: when you make a threat that has no teeth when it comes to impact or result if it is carried out, it's not a very effective threat.

As far as what Charlene Sumlin posted, I notice you left out her diatribe that she posted under her maiden name where she bashed the A&M community right before the Nicholls game. I think the timestamp was September 10th?

Damn people, get off each other’s back. I started this thread because I felt a sympathy for Sumlin realizing how far he has fallen in his profession. He is in his 50s and was in his third head coaching job. Perhaps he has an alcohol substance abuse problem and that led to his downfall. But it is an example of the pressure these people must be under to perform at these high levels. I feel for him from a human to human perspective but he had his shot. He is likely financially secure. But who knows if he will ever land another job? It’s a parallel to Johnny Manziel who I still contend was one of the most athletic and exciting college QBs I ever saw.

The poster in question seems to get more and more frustrated that I simply do not care about his threats or jabs. I don't even feel them.

The facts are that she never claimed it was an Aggie. And she did go to the police.

I think I made myself clear on what I took issue with. What do you think I am skirting around?

I think you do. Your response to the letter is the exact reason why we were dragged through the mud by the media. Instead of lending support to the Sumlins, you laser focused your attention on trashing the family's intentions and letter authenticity. That wasn't our job to do.

You can never admit it, but you know that your response to the entire ordeal was just shite. You can try and justify your actions by saying "well, we have had one too many fake cases". But that's not what true Ags should have done. We should have let Law Enforcement do their job and instead focused on doing ours; show support to our own.

Jabs and threats? Where? I don't think I've ever insulted you or threatened you in any way. The worst I've done is asked you to be a man of your word and boycott all things Aggie Football like you said you would.

I didn't think you were skirting around, I just wasn't sure if you knew something or were closer to the situation.

Let's de-escalate; Lobot isn't the only one who thought that. I saw someone on the coaching changes board post recently that it was time for Sumlin to "send another letter" to himself. It's stupid, but understandable.

It's unfortunate that such a perception persists, because it's been clearly resolved who sent it, and it was not an Aggie fan or a Sumlin: Houston Chronicle story

I actually had to call one of that guy's stalking targets for a non-profit fundraising effort. Heard the lady get upset when she answered the phone, like she had been getting unwanted phonecalls. She got much nicer when I told her why I was calling to thank her for her support.

Sucks that the Sumlins got caught up in the psycho dragnet.
