He extended his contract through 2031 and his new contract is for 10/yr $94.95 million.

I think you're nuts. I think this is exactly what they ought to have done.

He’s been here four years and he’s the first coach since Jackie fricking Sherill to win a major bowl game! Yeah R.C. won us a BIG 12 championship but he could never win the biggest game of our season.

So do I. Which is why I’m so glad A&M is demonstrating a total commitment to spending whatever they have to spend to get them. Let’s say A&M goes 11-1 this year and LSU goes 8-4. You think Woodward would make any phone calls? It was a very wise risk to do this now. If Jimbo fails, we’ve lost money. If Jimbo succeeds, we kept our next Beat Bryant at A&M.

I don’t think Jimbo is going to fail.

Sumlin won the Cotton Bowl - that one counted.

i dont understand why so many people are acting like there was a threat of him leaving. he had 7 years and over 50 million left. you would have had to give him basically a new 10 year deal for him to leave that and there was literally no one even thinking about doing that

i understand the raise. i dont get the extra three years

Johnny and Mike Evans won the cotton bowl with Sherman’s offensive line

And we extended sumlin

Because for better or for worse the administration wants to lock Fisher up long term. Recruiting is on the rise, donations are very much up, and the football team is competing at the highest level in the SEC. This is about the commitment to Fisher that FSU never showed.

The whole staff is getting raises, not just Fisher. But he is the straw that stirs the drink

I feel this is more about showing stability when the landscape is in chaos. The only thing that could slow this train is less than stellar recruiting and any unknowns such as coaching staff instability. Sure Jimbo had 7 years but is anyone naive enough to think a program like LSU wouldn’t kick the tires if O is let go? With Texas and OU entering the league you know darn well they would exploit any perceived weakness while sitting in a head to head recruit’s living room. A&M is comfortable with the trajectory, they like Jimbo, they like the media spotlight. When you want that long term commitment you put a ring on the finger In this case you put a few extra bills in a wallet.

I dont understand this logic. We are literally the only people acting like this could happen. There is literally no sign of jimbo looking 6o leave. Even if he were looking to leave, we would match anything offered

Oh and unless this contract is different, there is absolutely no buyout faced if he leaves us for another job. So this would do absolutely nothing to keep him from leaving if its the same setup as his previous deal

It's not my money, but I would have preferred our donors found a way to give that extra $1.5 million every year to each signing class via NIL deals.

Jimbo already has a top 10 salary and one of the longest contracts in the nation, if he is actually committed to A&M, I fail to see why that isn't enough.

This is a bad take.

The money we’re offering is what prevents him from leaving. The price of poker for Jimbo is 100 M minimum.

we already had him committed to an insane amount of money and years. any school who wanted to hire him before this week would have had to offer a deal like the one we just gave him to get him to move. that already was in place before this deal

7.5 million per over 5 years simply aint the same as 9 million per over 10 years. Acting like the latter does "absolutely nothing" more than the former to keep LSU from poaching him is, I think, silly.

Even more, it sends a message to Jimbo: "we're committed to given the program as much or more than any program in the nation. Everything you want to do, you can do just as well here as anywhere."

I agree. That was an opening. Now that opening is closed. The buyout isn't needed.
