Charlie McClendon. He coached LSU from 1962 to 1979. I remember him being well liked by them when I was a kid.

lsu fans have never liked any of their coaches. can anybody name one former coach that they dont have utter disgust towards?
Saba....nevermind.
Jimb....oh wait.
Chavi....oh, that's right.
Mile....damn it. This is harder than I thought.

Kentucky and Ole Miss fans say the exact same things about him.

He recruited well for UK but our special teams were shite under him.

Watch our linebacker play this year. You will be sorry you hired him. LSU Warned us and they were right

He's terrible. We don't have the best talent at LB, but LB has been a consistent problem for us under him.

Horrific special teams coach. Actually just a bad coach all around.
We warned LSU fans(who already knew him from his stint there earlier), LSU fans warned Ole Miss fans and now Ole Miss fans are warning you.

Yeah he isn’t my favorite hire. But LSU fans are pretty split on him. And he had a lot of successful linebackers while at LSU. I’ll give it a chance because he can definitely recruit and has deep ties in Houston and Louisiana, but it’s one to watch closely.
I’ve heard Elko is a micro manager of DBs and LBs so I suspect him to be very involved in both units.

I'll cooler than a cucumber my man. This ain't TexAgs. This is a sunshine and rainbows free zone. Kool Aid is bad for your health and I will not contribute to the board's diabetes.

Trust the process my man. Dennis Franchione, Mike Sherman, Kevin Sumlin, and Jimbo Fisher.... one of these is not like the others. Drink away!

Tough call, some of those gifs were great. I especially liked the fishing one.

He’s not my favorite hire, either, but, with respect, no one is split on him. Both Kentucky and LSU fans (and a family member of mine who knew him through football) pretty much unanimously agree that he’s a poor coach but a great ETex/Houston recruiter.
Maybe what you meant is that HE’S split, or a mixed-bag.
He’s made his career on recruiting ability in ETex/Houston, period. Jimbo knew him at LSU, knew that’s what he’s good for, and that’s why he was hired.
It is what it is. That’s Jimbo. He wants recruiters first. It’s crystal clear now.
Whether or not that’s a winning strategy remains to be seen, but there’s nothing we can do or say either way. Jimbo is unfirable and has complete automomy. 3 years from now we’ll know more or less if it’s going to work (not that we can do anything about it then, but we’ll know). Right now, we have no idea, other than that Jimbo’s ways served him darn well at FSU.

Recruiting super elite talent works. I promise you that.

Most coaches load up on recruiters to start a staff at a new job, and then slowly transition to more technicians if need be.
Mike Elko is pretty heavy handed with the 2nd and third level of his defenses so I’m not too concerned.
