In 2017, Armani Watts had:

87 of the 405 total defensive back tackles.

10.0 of the 17.5 total defensive back TFL.

4 of the 6 total defensive back INT. (10 total as a team)

2 of the 10 total defensive back forced fumbles. (18 total as a team)

2 of the 8 total defensive back recovered fumbles. (12 total as a team)

2 of the 8 total team blocked kicks (Cullen Gillaspea had 2 as well)

Armani Watts' current team (Kansas City Chiefs) is 3-0.

Oh God, he was like our version of Blake Gideon. Starter for what seemed like many, many years. Always getting beat and never did much. Had two picks in our win over Nebraska in 2010 and that was just about it.

And maybe he didn’t do much because our starting CBs back then were pretty good. Terrance Frederick and Coryell Judie were both very solid for us. Wish we could get some guys at least that good or better back on thei field.

Hunter was an undersized box safety. He wasn't terrible, but he was put in positions to lose far too often.

For some reason, Howard Matthews is my least favorite Aggie DB ever.

I liked the way he hit, he was one of the more physical DBs we’ve had in the last decade. Of course he got ejected a few times for targeting as a result, but I liked that he wasn’t afraid to lay someone out.

But he couldn’t cover a wheel route to save his life plus there’s the time he got trucked against LSU that was embarrassing.

To be honest I think #21 is jinxed for dbs. Doomed to over persue, cause pass interference, and face maske people. Oh and get faked out on double moves.

Not sure, I just remember him actually getting beat by wheel routes several times during his career. I know I wasn’t the only one as several of my friends all noticed the same thing back in the day.

Yes.

But damned if it wasn't the truth

We have never had a good secondary. Never.

Not true. In ‘75 we had Pat Thomas and Lester Hayes in the same secondary. That’s just one example.

I'm talking about when most of us were out of diapers.

Well, you made a categorical claim. I went back to the days of Finest and me, but as 00 said, there are more recent examples as well. But in recent memory, we frickin suck at defense.
For the record, football has changed, and I think Elko is a genius hire. There is no place on the field that recruiting matters more than DB’s. Just give him a tiny few more pieces and the world is different. And in the meantime: Dono, gahtdammit, find a way to stay on the field.

Keldrick Carper and Clifford Chattman are apparently slated to come back soon, if anything the depth will help, but hopefully they end up playing well enough to start. Don't know much about either.
