also, I just noticed that November 15th vs Mizzou is when A&M was scheduled to play ULM at home.

Starting the year with USCe also means the Lamar game must be canceled or rescheduled.

So we now have to set up 3 OOC games.

@MsPotts_ESPN: #SECNetwork's first game in 2014 will be #TAMU at #SouthCarolina Thurs, Aug 28, 2014

That game went from super ESPN exposure opening the season to the possible opening salvo in a carriage fight.

They all have to be home games as we are required to get to 6 so don't count on it.

no offense to the Mizzou posters but I was hoping for a team other than y'all since we've already played so much as of late.

I wonder if Pinkel was lobbying hard to keep a foothold in Texas for one more year?

No offense taken. Respect A&M but have much the same feelings, as I posted on the rant. After next year, we still will not have played LSU, Auburn or MSU while A&M and MU have played every year since the formation of the Big 12. I would have liked to have mixed it up a bit more.

I wouldn't be surprised if GP or someone at Mizzou lobbied to keep A&M for recruiting reasons. I also would bet the other SEC folk went along with it because it allows them to schedule more games between the previous SEC teams.

The one good note I'll take from it, is I'll get to see the new renovations next year.

My guess is it just fit. I know this whole thing has been stalled because some game couldn't be moved (not sure whose) but our schedule in particular was held hostage (which is why we weren't announcing games). If I had to bet, this was the backup plan that we went to because whatever was holding it up never got resolved.

f-ck me.

I have Time Warner and I can almost guarantee they are going to be an issue with carriage.

and now that I think about it, I'm guessing A&M is going to get a TON of SEC Network games because ESPN is going to want people pissed enough in Texas to demand it.

Yea, no offense taken at all. Its been strange scheduling at the end of playing in the Big 12( thank you sweet baby jesus for letting that be in the past ) as well as entering SEC play. I would like to see some of the other West teams as well at this point.

Houston boards seem pretty convinced its a matter of when, not if, they announce a 2 game series with us.

They did just sign a 4 game deal with Tech FWIW

really hope not unless it's like the 2-game series with UTSA where they come to Kyle twice. I don't see any reason to go to Houston to play a game.

its possible that will simply become the way things work if we play schools who are in conferences aligned with ESPN.

tmc: I could see a game in Houston, especially at their rebuilt stadium.

I disagree. I have nothing per se against UH but there are pretty legitimate reasons I'm against this.

We're already losing a home game every other year because of Arky. Meanwhile we're building the Taj Majal of stadiums and we'll make $8m or so per home game against folks like Houston. We paid Rice 1.2m. We are paying ULM 1.1m. If Houston (or any midmajor) wants to play us, pay them to come to Kyle. It's worth it to us.

Plus we own home game tv rights. Honestly if I was another school in the SEC, I'd be incredibly pissed at A&M for giving away the rights to one of our games for a Houston home game since they provide zero tv value. UF-FSU or SC-Clem or LSU-Wisky are huge money makers and we'd play UH? If you give away a home game, you should get back a home game that is marketable, especially in the future state where we revenue share our tv contract.

Actually as I think about it, I'd probably suggest that any SEC home and home series be required to be vs Big 5 opponents (with exceptions for 2 for 1s and 3 for 1s). Too much value in tv to have other schools give that away given we are all sharing it.

I could see ESPN being happy as a clam with A&M setting up games with SMU and Houston in the near future.

At A&M those games would end up on the SECN to help pressure Comcast in Houston and TWC in Dallas into putting SECN on their basic tiers. Even with those schools having smaller fanbases every little bit will help.

In fact, I can see a TON of A&M and Arkansas games OOC and in conference ending up on SECN if TimeWarner is a pain in the arse. (and I fully expect them to be)

The AAC will probably survive into the next stage of 1A/FBS football as a P5 feeder so doing the occasional home and home with them (as well as several MWC schools) will probably just be a fact of life.

I'm sure ESPN is happy as they have the content either way. In fact they probably prefer it since they don't have to share with the SEC for games under the AAC's contract

I may be wrong on this but I bet TWC doesn't hold out. I think they probably already have an idea from the LHN add.

I really don't think it will help with UH. We can buy Rice or UNT (or UTA in the future) and get about the same impact.

And while I get what you are saying, I also think this is the same strategic mistake that ESPN made with LHN. People don't demand a network for 1 game which is what an opposing fan would care passionately about. They go to a bar or a friend's house to watch it. It's rather worthless IMO and I think by this point ESPN would have learned this lesson. Hell I think it's pretty normal still for them to not be on tv (I don't think they've been on tv yet this year).

I certainly believe some schools will choose to do that. I just don't think it's wise for us. Due to the 4/3/1 conference setup, we really can only afford to play 1 home/home. Otherwise you are going to have only 6 home games every other year. So playing UH likely means not playing a P5 team at all which I think will be unacceptable. I'll just say I think it would be a mistake.

Just repeating more from the UH message boards.

Apparently, Houston wanted a 2-2 that went @A&M, @Reliant, @A&M, @Houston.

We wanted a 2-1.

Both are settling on a 1-1 with the game in Houston at Reliant w/a split gate.

Again, this is just message board scuttlebutt but the guy posting is pretty convinced and apparently has hit on this stuff correctly before. He also has them playing a game vs Boise St.

this would at least make more sense to me. It's essentially a 3 for 1 (1.5 to 0.5)

LSU/A&M final regular season game...

Thanksgiving? Horrible. No LSU fan likes this, gotta be that Friday. How do the Aggies feel about this?
