From Warchant, somewhat confirming what I was told regarding how long this has been going on:

quote:

The most interesting thing I've been hearing over the last 24 hours is how long the courtship between Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M may have been going on. As you know, we reported back in October that that Fisher was going to be the Aggies' primary candidate should Sumlin get fired. However, I've been hearing more that this process may have begun even before that, probably back in September shortly after Labor Day weekend (after UCLA upset A&M).

Also another interesting point:

quote:

In hindsight, many around the program now feel this was a done deal as early as Halloween after A&M lost to Mississippi State. Jimbo's actions on the recruiting trail support this.

Word around Bright is Woodward is the type of guy who walks into a room, drops nutsack on the table and doesn't take no for an answer. Rumor is after MSU (he'd already been talking with Jimbo for over 6 weeks) he straight up asked what it would take, Jimbo told him and he said "done". The numbers I've heard regarding coaching staff salaries are absurd, on the order of up to $2 million annually for coordinators. We're prepared to have a staff made up entirely of guys making over a million a year.

People are genuinely in awe of Woodward right now. Dude's a big league AD and has been working this for months.

The other thing is this was all him. He was the guy making the calls, personally had Jimbo vetted and flew out to Tallahassee on at least one occasion. His full time job for 3 months has been hiring Jimbo Fisher.

This sounds unrealistic. I know it may be trending that way, but pay Jimbo ~7.5 then another 11 for assistants seems nuts.

It does, but rumor is we're prepared to do it if needed.

This is the best part. Woodward definitely seems like the type that can alpha our boosters without pissing them off to where they won’t give money. Likely had this plan and went to them instead of letting them take control and contact their pet candidates like in the past

I think the contract ends up not nearly as money whippish as people are speculating. I’ve seen FSU boards saying they expect 75 mill just for Jimbo.

They can’t jnderstand why he would leave for anything short of Fort Knox.

Dan Mullen got 6 year, 36 M. He's never won shite. It is 100% going to be huge. I think the absolute smallest it will be is 8 year, 56 M.

Yeah, that’s still a lot different than 75 lol.

Tennessee offered gundy 8 mill.

It's gonna be a huge deal. He'll be second only to Saban in salary and at least 5 years will be fully guaranteed.

We just spent 500 million on a stadium, not on the new stadium but on just fixing up old one

I’m thankful to see us not pinching pennies with such an important decision

You mean we don't have to "manage our expectations"?

Dude is an LSU plant signing us up for a decade crippling retirement contract for his buddy. He will bolt for LSU when alleva is fired.

Followed by Jimbo mailing it in until retirement.

The cost for win for us next year is going to look bad.

Lets say we win 10.

Sumlin Buyout = 10M
Jimbo Buyout = 7M
Jimbo Salary = 8M
2.5 M per win.

They won't pay every assistant $1M. The coordinators would be around $1M each, and the line coaches will probably be between $500-700K and the rest will be in the $300-500k range. Brewster would probably get a fat check too, but even that wouldn't be $1M imo
