This hire for Sumlin is crucial. Much like Auburn it could take you from good to championship.

We had a mutually agreed response time of Monday with WM. He didn't respond. Not a yes, not a no. We inquired and he asked for more time. Subsequently we found out his agent talked to UH about their potential opening. At that point we told him we were moving on to other targets. It wasn't about money.
Muschamp had 3 good offers and was still trying to figure out if he'd be in line for a HC job he might want. It's a tough spot for him because if the right job opened he'd be limiting his options by taking a DC job too soon. We believed his goal was to play it out til he knew all his options, which is fair for him but not very reasonable for us given we didn't know if he'd choose us even when he got to that point.
