I would start it in 2016. He's likely to start a little sluggish. What you will get out of him will be apparent next season. Not to say you guys won't improve, just that in year one it may be more incremental than it will eventually be.

A minuscule improvement on defense this year would have a great immediate impact.

No one expects the wrecking crew. We just need to not be last in the conference.

I don't ever want to be ranked in the triple digits again.

On what do you base that?
Or maybe you meant to say that our players won't be the most talented he's ever coached?
On that, I agree.
But I don't think he will be sluggish.

Unless he means literally Chavis will be slow-moving or inactive. I can agree with that. He's older and won't act like a fool like Coach Boom.

That's a good point.
Then again, Louisiana has one of the nation's highest obesity rates; so his sluggish factor may, in fact, be ameliorated by the LA --> TX move?

No one said any of that is untrue.

See 2009. Also, read. I said he is likely to start sluggish. No one is being described as sluggish.

LSU was 10th in scoring D that year. What I wouldn't give for a D THAT good. If that is sluggish, I don't need to know what isn't.

No need to be unmannerly.
I was asking for clarification.
I still fail to see the difference in your two scenarios.
Chavis' team(s) will improve over time--an indication of them adapting to his system, as opposed to any sluggish start on his part.

But what did they become under him (see 2011, an all time great unit)? Also, different offenses. You guys don't need that. An equivalent for what you guys run would be around a top 30 or so. I don't think you get there this year, but next year, I think you guys will be impressed.

Also, the real issue in 2009 is LSU was 46th against the run. We lost several games because of our inability to stop a rushing offense. That team gave up 133.4 yards per game. The 2008 defense (which was putrid) gave up only 105.7. He starts sluggish, just trust me.

It is an idiom. You'll just have to trust me that you aren't familiar with it.

I think our defense will look considerably better right away, because our talent should be vastly better and Chavis isn't Snyder.

He'll never match his LSU defense's here by stats, but the improvement should be awesome to watch.

We have very different definitions of putrid.

Last year gave up 226.5 yards per game... in RUSHING ALONE. 220.8 per the year before that.

Not ever being able to play offense messes with your ability to judge a defense
