Rice is picked to finish dead last in CUSA and has won 6 of their last 32 games.

While I understand your sentiment, playing in the NIT appeared to help out the team in year two of the Gillispie Era

Is it funny to anybody else when we jumped to SEC and everybody said the FB team was going to get stomped we said, "maybe at first, but our BB and Baseball teams will compete immediately. "

.... But the exact opposite has been true.

Year 1 - NIT
Mea culpa.

A&M did make it to the NIT in year two of the ImperialPalace Era (my 2nd year on campus).

In years two and three, we could've gone further in the tournament but we had a penchant for losing close games.

Man, the BCG days were fun. Losing on the football field under Fran, not so much, but watching a basketball program rise, live and in person, from the being the winless worst to attaining national recognition was a thrill. I loved how those teams fought. I loved BCG; I'll admit it. I had a major man-crush on him. It wouldn't have happened in this or any other universe, but I wonder what may have happened had he stayed. Would we have gone to the Final Four or would his drinking and carousing have caught up with him here?

Probably so.

On the subject of Kennedy... am I alone in thinking that the responsible, respectable, adult thing to do once you've found out you have Parkinson's as a major conference college basketball coach would be to ask for a retirement package buyout of your contract? This is a disease that's going to wreck your energy, stamina, ability to focus, etc. You've got to know that the Scott Drews of the world are going to recruit against you with it. You could retire a multi-millionaire, go coach High School and let someone without your lack of coaching ability at this level and debilitating condition have success, or you could ride it into the ground. Seems to me that WITHOUT the Parkinson's he was in over his head and would have already been fired if it wasn't for the 'disease excuse' he has, along with the potential for him to sue us for "firing him because he has Parkinson's". I feel like our basketball program is his hostage, to an extent.

Why is a sports coach some special circumstance in this regard?

The good news is that we're just another postseason-less season away from Bruce Pearl.

How is it not?

Being a successful college coach requires one to crush HUGE hours. Most "regular" jobs, even the tough ones, don't demand as much time.

I don't know about you, but my basketball coaches were all physically involved to some extent - demonstrating, positioning players bodies, running the floor to watch the play, standing to watch practice and games. It's not a desk job. Someone with Parkinson's wouldn't even be considered for rig work because they are physically infirm. Coaching isn't AS physically demanding, but the need to exert oneself physically is very much there.

He's in charge of a large organization while withering away from a debilitating disease. I'm pretty sure a CEO would be expected to take a bow under those circumstances. My elementary school principal had MS and while still mentally sharp she was tired and worn and suffering and the district forced her to retire. It's one thing to have a disease killing you and be a *part* of an organization, it's another thing entirely to be running it.

Sucks, but that's the way it is.

Agreed, he hated it.

The correct answer is we should have paid Buzz Williams whatever he wanted.

I loved Turge. I thought (and still think) that he's a hell of a coach. I just wish he took recruiting as seriously when he was here at A&M like he is now in Maryland. He just lacked the horses that the elite programs had, but he always had them coached up and ready to play. And watching Kennedy's zombie behavior on the bench makes me miss watching Turge run and jump around on the sideline

He did whine like a little bitch sometimes, though
