I like it, this can thread can be a centralized repository for Longhorn racism.

IMO, you can see the racism when it comes to the support of Strong and Smart. It's almost as if a decent amount of Texas fans want/wanted them to fail.

I still maintain that Strong was hired because we hired Sumlin.

I feel bad for the guy for being used by Texas. He is a really good coach who was only hired because some Texas boosters wanted a "token" and other boosters wanted to have the satisfaction of firing a black man.

There is no doubt, and their fan base hated him with a passion from day one, he never stood a chance

It's hilarious that Strong had great success immediately prior to going to Texas and then again immediateiy after being fired.

Strong really is a good coach and a good guy, he was just in a no win situation with them.

Texas is a terrible job for an introvert with poor public speaking skills. They are effectively Austin's pro team and you have to be media savvy to succeed.

Strong wanted to be left alone to coach football and they were having none of it.

You ever been to Louisville? It's the same exact situation.

One of their favorite brags: The 1969 squad was the last all white national championship team.

So? Their football program is pretty big now too. The entire town is behind both the football and basketball programs.

I'm just saying football at Louisville and football at Texas aren't comparable in terms of coverage and media scrutiny. It's like the Premier League vs the English Football League.

I lived most of my life in KY and Louisville just isn’t that big of a spotlight. UK dominates the state outside ville city limits, and inside city limits its a lot closer than you think. It’s certainly not a position where the coach is expected to be a public figure akin to governor, especially for football.

Louisville is a fairly low key position for b-ball or football hc, you could be a pariah or hermit and succeed there if you win. Even rick pitino, struggled with the spotlight at UK (complaining often, and bristling at the public commitments) even though he won big and took over sanctions. Whereas at Louisville, coming in as a known future hof’er and spurning the in state rival didn’t really have trouble with the “spotlight” until he continued to stack scandals.
