Just found out that one of my fish buddies is running for Congress but not the one I expected.

Specifically, he's running for John Radcliffe's seat.

Is there any actual evidence that social distancing does anything?

I seem to recall reading that it has never been tried before, and we are only now seeing if it has any effect, but without a control group to compare to.

Dear John Sharp,

This is what happens when you turn our beloved school into a degree mill!

That started with Mike McKinney.

Specific message for AGBQ00:

Now that Radcliffe has been confirmed as Director of National Intelligence, that opens the door for Trace to take his seat this fall. He'd be our first fish buddy elected to Congress.

You laugh. But I bring evidence.

I would say the lot of you, assuming everything you're told without actually reading the research people base their claims on, are more evidence for degree mill status than I am.

Brazos County was averaging 8 or 9 cases per day before social distancing.

During, it dropped down to around 2 or 3 cases per day.

With social distancing restrictions removed we are now averaging around 13 or 14 cases per day.

Enough data right there to keep my arse as far away from people like yourself as I can.

Darwin is gonna get your arse.

The data says you're wrong on the case count.

The most concise way I can refute this:

I have a fever.

A doctor tells me, 'we have this idea. Your body is too hot. If we have you drink ice water every hour, it will cool you down and stop the fever.'

Makes sense, so I drink ice water.

Two days later, my fever breaks.

The doctor says 'ah-ha! Clearly, I was right. Ice water stops fever.'

--------

There is actually a very old hypothesis about epidemiological modeling which says that a typical outbreak of a novel virus will first spike as it hits the 'low hanging fruit (people who for whatever reason are susceptible), then drop steadily (but not quickly) as it gradually peters out. No bell curve.

Is that true? At this point we don't know. There is no way to tell at the moment how much reduction or slowing (if there is any slowing) is due to social distancing, or just that the most vulnerable have already been cut through, and now it's down to people who are less vulnerable.

I'm not (and didn't in my thread) saying social distancing is useless.

I'm saying we have no evidence that can give any kind of conclusion that it does anything in regards to the virus. The only (semi) control group we have is Sweden, and I would say that the current measured difference between Sweden and other 1st world countries in fatality rate leaves the unbiased observer with an impression that social distancing to the extent we have is largely pointless.

For whoever downvoted: I laugh at your impotent, silly rage because I questioned people who graduated medical school.

So you're admitting that you're only doing what you're doing for the responses? It is bad enough that this board is dead, but do we really need the insufferable Poli Board bleeding over into tArk??? You need to check your arse at the door, son.

But since we are already here and there is nothing else to talk about, let's dive into it then;

You bring up Sweden, but leave out the fact that neighboring Scandinavian countries with similar demographics, health systems, and lifestyles have had less deaths. As a matter of fact, Sweden has had three times more deaths than Denmark, Iceland, Finland, and Norway...combined. You also conveniently leave out the fact that a lot of people in Sweden practiced social distancing on their own. The government also put some restrictions on large crowd gatherings and most people followed them (for the most part...yes, we all saw those b-rolls of kids playing in the park).

I know you think it's cool to question everything that goes against your political beliefs (because we definitely needed to politicize the WuFlu ), but questioning social distancing is asinine. If I stay in my home and don't interact with anyone, then I'm not going to get sick. End of discussion. If I do go out, but take certain precautions (minimize my time with other people, everyone wears masks, I disinfect groceries and other objects I introduce into my home, etc), then I'm simply reducing my risks, not eliminating them. It's not a foreign concept. I'm not sure why you choose to question this (probably for Poli Board circle jerk points), but this is a dangerous road you're going down on.

And yes, we know....you're not saying it doesn't work. You're simply "qUeStIoNiNg" it .

Everyone just get the frick back to work. Wear a mask, don't wear a mask, IDGAF. Keep your fricking dickbeaters washed. If you're old, sequester yourself. Don't rub all up on people for no fricking reason. Shouldn't have been doing that shite anyway. Catch it, don't catch it, IDGAF. You'll probably survive.

And if I hear one more mofo run up and tell me, "we're all in this together," I swear to God...

I'm over the shite.
