I don't have a problem with coaches/players expresssing political views to the public. I just reserve the right to call them dipshits.
The "shut up and coach/play" logic is flawed IMO. These are wildly public figures who, should they be inclined to, can have a significant effect on causes they believe in. Jim Brown and Bear Bryant did more for the integration and overall AA cause in this country than anyone but MLK. Bear Bryant told the state of Alabama to STFU and embrace black student athletes because they were gonna get their asses kicked if they didn't.

Did he give a speech? Lead a walkout of the stadium? Sit out a game? Write an editorial?
Or did he just show them?

I think he purposely took an arse beating from USC to prove a point. Alabama was just out-matched. USC had better athletes and Bear knew that. Alabama never stood a chance and Bear still scheduled them.

Yeah that's the story I've always read. I think it's a great example of how to bring about change. He let the folks decide if they'd rather be backwards or be successful.
I've talked with another D1 head coach from that era who quietly integrated and never gets the credit he deserves for it, and I just admire the hell out of the guy for how he did it and how he talks about it today.
But I guess my gripe is that I have a hard time drawing comparisons between the civil rights era and liberals today who actually want to shrink the bill of rights.

The Rockets bandwagon is ready for you, TBird.
Maybe I'll just meet ya halfway and wear a red MAGA hat to the next Spurs game I attend
Pop's always been a lefty, but the fact that he's chosen to get lippy about politics the year we have our worst season since the late 90s is just a bad, bad look. Pissed me off, and pissed off a lot of season ticket holders. Renewals have been way down this year, and that started before the season started going downhill.

San Antonio only has Mexicans.
There are "white" Mexicans, "black" Mexicans, and "Mexican" Mexicans.

Do I count as white Mexican or Mexican Mexican?
I grew up near San Antonio in the hill country with a Mexican extended family, but...I would pick up a Miller Lite over Bud Lite any day.

dont forget the "texican" mexicans, the ones that actually support the wall.
The Mexican Mexicans who don't speak a lick of Spanish? Those people just give me bad vibes.
Life Pro Tip: Don't ever trust a Mexican who can't speak Spanish. Something is just off about them.
