Alright it’s offically offseason. I remember a similar thread on the other site a few years back that had some good discussion, but don’t remember us having one over here.

So who do you got? As the title implies, best 4 players of all time, no coaches. Can be just based off their college careers or college and NFL, I’ll leave that up to you.

For me:
John David Crow - Heisman, self explanatory
Johnny Manziel - ditto above
Von Miller - Butkus award, crazy good NFL career and Super bowl MVP, and great ambassador always ending interviews with “thanks and gig em”
_______ - John Kimbrough, Dat Nguyen, Shane lechler, Mike Evans, myles Garrett, or someone else? Need to research a bit on it.

Both Heisman Winners, Von, and Acie Law. If we’re talking football only replace Acie with Dat.

This.

How many other major schools could you do this for and not have a coach on it? Only coach you could even make somewhat of an argument for I think is Sherrill.

Football only:

JDC
JFF
Dat Nguyen
Von Miller

If not limited to football replace Miller or Nguyen with Acie Law IV

For me, a monument would need to be something more than just the best athletes. It would need to be aspirational ...players who embodied “what it meabs to ne an Aggie.”

EKG would simply HAVE to have a spot. JDC probably. Dat, definitely. I would consider Gillaspia, and Von would be in the running.

Manziel would not even be a finalist.

Right. It is kinda sad we don’t have a stand out coach in our history. Hopefully in 10 years our current one will be in strong consideration but I don’t want to put the cart in front of the horse so to speak....

EKG is an interesting choice because of the tradition created, even if he didn’t ever actually do anything on the field for us. I like Gilly, but there’s no way you put him in the top 4 players of all time. Good story and good kid, fun to watch play, but his impact on Aggie football is minimal.

And you may not like JFF for his off field antics and failing out of the NFL, but there’s no denying what he did during his time here. Not even just the heisman, but putting A&M on the map nationally during our SEC move, and generating tons of interest in the program. I don’t see how anyone could not have him in the top 4. Take your personal feelings out of the equation.

As to everyone else, I was mostly thinking football players but do agree if talking other sports too, you have to put Acie on there.

I think you misunderstood my post, because I agree with everything you said ... if “best player” is the metric.

I simply said that MY Aggie Mt Rushmore would be less about pure athletic performance and more about “being an Aggie.”

If you're talking Aggie lore/history, EKG has a permanent place.

If we're valuing production, then the conversation changes to include guys like Miller.

Side note: is Gilly the best 12th Man SINCE ol' EKG?! I think he might have a case.

I don't know the other three, but it feels like either Loftin or Sharp should be up there for pushing through the political bullshite in the state to get us into the SEC.
