So the Lance McCullers approach except its a slide piece and not a power curve.

I get the feeling this is going to be a special year for Olsen Magic!

I hope you're right.
The sky is the limit. Our hitting should be better. Our pitching depth and bullpen should be too. I worry a little that our starters won't be able to carry us or that we don't have a true Friday night ace to shut someone down.

Stolen from mdanyc on TA. Some good info on our opening weekend opponent.

Rhode Island will be a tough match up. This will not be like opening weekend last year when we were scoring 10+ runs every day.
- The finished second in the A10 last year. Swept Davidson, who finished fifth (and we saw they were pretty tough) and they also took one from Arkansas.
- They bring back pretty much everybody (51 of 52 starts on the mound) plus Tyler Wilson is returning from an injury after missing last year.
- Tyler Wilson was a first team All American by several publications in 2016. Projected high draft pick. Beat number 1 seed South Carolina in Columbia to open the 2016 regional. He struck out 122 in 102 innings in 2016.
- The Sunday starter, Vitaly Jangols, was 7-1 with a 2.23 ERA last year and was a freshman All American.
- It does appear they lost most of their bats from a year ago and will have a pretty young line up.

I worry about this too. It's kind of a strange situation where Kolek could be the 6th-7th best Friday night guy in the league but Killer might be the best Sunday guy. If Dox can put it together, he would for sure be the best Tuesday guy.
My only other worry is that the non-con schedule is pretty soft and almost everything is at home. We are going to have to win those big mid week matchups or our RPI will lag even with an SEC schedule.

Our OOC is a significant step up from last year.
We always start a bunch at home. It warm here and it makes some money. We have the one tourney and usually one west coast OOC (home-home).
Edit:
Last year we entered conference play with an RPI in the 70s @ 14-4 with losses to Pepperdine (1of3), TCU, BU, and tu.
We don't have those RPI match ups with top 10-20 types, but we also won't have 10 games vs teams outside the top 200 (BG finished @ 274!).

What is the difference between a Fri starter and Sunday or Saturday?
Posted on 2/16/18 at 3:19 pm to Tecate
Normally your best starter goes Friday. Next best on Saturday. Next best on Sunday. Most college clubs don’t have 3 good starters so Sunday is usually a hitters day.
