im looking forward to 3 things: 1) is shoemake going to avoid the soph slump 2.) is helman the next big thing 3.) is that top 5 round pitcher all killer no filler, or is he just another project that will need developing.

1. Shewmake will have a good year if we protect him. Coleman and Foster really need to take the next step and force people pitch to Shewmake.
2. Helman's JUCO #'s were beyond video game. His #'s this summer weren't much worse. I think he is the safest bet to be a big contributor of the newcomers.
3. Conlon was drafted on potential, not pitchability. He is still a bit raw. Saenz and Lacy are probably the freshmen pitchers who will make the biggest contribution right away. I think best case is for Conlon to emerge as a power arm at the back of the pen for this year (kinda like Kilkenny a couple years ago). Working with Childress he could easily develop into a Friday night guy but he isn't just plug and play.

yea helman is the player im most confident about. the last two JUCO POY we got were both fantastic, cory patton and joe paterson.

@AggieBaseball projected starting RF Jorge Gutierrez is academically ineligible and is transferring to a junior college. #Aggies lose some definite power potential, but will add more athleticism to the offensive lineup w/ Allonte Wingate likely inserted.
Damn damn damn

Gotta be honest, I was never that impressed with Guti. He had pop but he struggled big time with SEC pitching. He also didn't have a true position where he fit in.

I liked his potential, but he had a long way to go. Didn't make a ton of contact. Struck out too much. Has some pop, but not monster power.

He was pretty much a 1B too wasn’t he
Or was pretty rough defensively in the OF

He was rough defensively regardless of position. I had serious doubts that he would make a significant impact this year. Most freshmen struggle at the plate but he probably had the worst approach I saw last year. Even when Janca struggled early in his career, he put together some competitive at bats with good plate discipline. Gutierrez reminded me of Ronnie Gideon, who abused bad pitching but never contributed much when it really mattered.

He could play first and catcher, but I don't think he excelled at any of them. Same with corner OF.

Practice started yesterday. TexAgs did a pretty good preview, albeit pretty disorganized, that I think you can hear without a sub.
I can't wait to get to opening day so we can start to see how the guys have developed and what the young guys bring to the table.

Supposedly, Jaws was sitting people down with a nasty slider. And doing it efficiently. I think it was Brauninger that said (tongue in cheek) that it was so good that he could throw it every pitch and tell hitters what was coming and still strike out the side. Interested to see him throw.
