My guess is this is why Sumlin was non-committal with Jefferson on where the process is. I'm not sure he's done swinging the axe.

Which is weird. I mean, what is he waiting for? It is not like recruiting is going to get hurt worse. Rip the bandaid.

The timing of the BJ thing is suspicious to me

Me too. It reeks of USC-esc "we will fire him if we for sure can hire someone better." That is the kind of playing from behind crap that major programs don't do.

First I've heard of that. Also first I've heard about chicken guts. Is that similar to getting a horse head in your bed?

It is part of an old Palo Mayombe curse. That makes me nervous though, as a native New Orleanian I am used to Voodoo and in Voodoo you normally consume the sacrifice in some way.

Maybe I just need to stick to what I know and make a Voodoo doll. I need to find a good picture of the guy.

I truly believed we would announce a home run big splash DC last night and then scoop up all the 5*s

Silly me

Well, that was a punch in the gut. Hopefully some good coaching hires will change the outlook of things (for us and those we're recruiting). I hold onto hope until the DC announcement is made (or until EE signing day nears). I keep telling myself "Sumlin the closer had to have a good reason." Time will tell, but I agree with others, he needs to get this DC hire right

He's waiting on his DC. Hiring a guy to run a defense means giving him some latitude. If he hates Hagen or Price or Joseph and that's a sticking point, well, you have to be prepared to do it.

We didn't need to announce an opening to look for an OL coach. We were already talking to agents and contacts and had perfect cover to do so.

BJ was let go like a week and a half ago. He knew. Sumlin knew. It wasn't done because we found someone better. It was done because it needed to be done. Sumlin and BJ are exceptionally close. It was difficult I'm sure. And if you can give the guy a little help on the way out you do so. So you give him time to find a job and gracefully exit until you no longer have time to wait on him (or something else initiates it)

Malik Jefferson's father on A&M trying for flip when they get DC: "A commitment from a Jefferson is final. It's over."

I really can't believe how badly Sumlin fricked this up. His inability to hire a DC May have single-handily resuscitated a dying Texas program.

Malik's commitment pretty much locks in about 5 other 4-5 star players to Texas and May cost us a couple more commits. Just an absolute clusterfrick.

Get a hold of yourself

Charlie strong won 6 games with 5*s coming out of his arse

This won't make them winners

It's all about perception. Reality doesn't matter if you convince people that you're heading in the right direction.

The reality of our program is we can't hire a DC, can't field a defense, and have declined in wins the past 3 years

Some of you are in denial.

If Sumlin doesn't work out here, we'll look at the time from the MSU game to today and think "how the hell didn't we see this coming?"

This was so much more than one recruit picking Texas over us. So, so much more.

This is meltdown worthy. Objectively speaking, the potential ramifications are terrifying for our program.

I'm gonna wait to melt until Mack, Murray, etc jump ship for real and we make a C level DC hire. If they do I agree Sumlin is on borrowed time

To think, if we would have gotten Boom we would still run this state.

Someone will. It is better to accept that.

Overall we still lead the head-to-head to them for the year. The problem is if Malik has a pied piper effect. Maybe we can use his own words ("A&M has twice the potential") against the social recruiting Charlie will force him to do.

Yep. I'm pissed we couldn't hire a DC by now, but I also understand that if we haven't done so there is probably a reason for it.

I won't melt until this so-called doomsday scenario actually plays out. Until then, we are going to hire a DC who can recruit and I expect him to go out there and sign some talent before signing day.

For those of you who have met him or at least listened to him talk to the media, know that he has this confidence and swagger about him but it can also come across arrogant and... For lack of a better discription, an *******. The word is that Sumlin and Malik had such a bad phone call Wednesday night that Malik didn't want to speak to him again. That isn't that far fetched because we know how short Sumlin can get with people when frustrated. We also know that Malik was supposed to wear Aggie gear to school on Thursday but didn't and momma said it was an easy decision Wednesday night. Sumlin must have mishandled that Wednesday conversation with Malik so badly that he didn't even want to show the Aggies were in his final 3. Sumlin may have still pulled this off without a DC hire if he had just handled the conversation with Malik better Wednesday night. We all know it is sometimes not what you say but how you say it. Sumlin must have really made Malik mad. Just trying to add things up as to what really happened. I don't think Brice or Looch would ever tell us that is what happened b/c they protect Sumlin to a certain degree. Just my 2 cents.

Best case scenario, we hire a B list DC and only lose Mack. That is the absolute best case.
