I think it's all easily explainable. Friends already on campus, ace recruiters added to staff, A&M it program/johnny effect. Recruiting visits to football games to show level of support that is possible if bball turns around.

Plus College Station isn't what it was even 5-10 years ago. Party atmosphere/female talent has continued to grow exponentially. We're like Arizona State with an education, and athletics program.

Which is why I said basketball recruits not football recruits

Turns out Newman's dad played for Stansbury (the Harvard of the West) at MSU so that's the connection

I think Stansbury could end up being a homerun hire and one that ends up saving BK's job over the next couple years.

It's going to be interesting to see how we close this class out at RB. Am a huge Kirk Merritt fan, but have read recently that he now wants to play WR. This weekend we have Jacques Patrick visiting, and Damien Harris is showing interest. Combine that with reengaging with Soso, and you can't go wrong with any one of those.

I believe he's going to the game as his official visit. Not sure if he'll be here Friday.

He's from Florida. Probably flying into IAH and coming into town and touring facilities Friday then going to the game Saturday. Makes sense he would make the most out of it since it may be tough for him to come back

Things are starting to logjam in terms of linebacker recruiting it seems like. We have Moore, Garner, Durham committed already and of course Jefferson is definitely priority #1 outside of Sheffield.

Was reported today Cassius Peat and Quarte Sapp both scheduled OV's with us. Ricky DeBerry already scheduled one and 2 on the outside looking in (Dannell Fennell and Lorenzo Phillips) are pretty high on us as well.

Rumor is Garner has some sort of serious injury right now and Moore is still looking around supposedly.

Kind of a whirlwind of information and all great prospects, and of course can't take them all. Who do you think signs on the dotted line on NSD? Who do we prefer? Lots of intrigue but I guess it's a good problem to have.... what say y'all?

That has been shutdown in the recent weeks. He claims he's 100% committed and isn't going to take any visits.

In terms of a second LB that signs, I'd personally like us to hold that spot for a "best player" available. Whether that be Kris Boyd, Kirk Merritt, or if our staff sees a lot of potential in one of those LBs, I want us to sign a player that is going to make an impact. Not someone who is going to add depth, but never see the field.

we're not exactly recruiting space fillers these days. Anyone we get is a potential impact player

That said, our LB situation is ugly. We essentially have 5 that will return in '15 and one of those is coming off major injury and three have barely seen the field to this point. I expect all 3 to come along but next year we should be expecting to compete for an SEC title and it will be our biggest weakness. We need players there.

Garner's injury has forced us to focus even more attention on it. IMO we need to take at least 5 with at least a few ready to play - and you often can't tell who is til they get on campus. Because so this, I wouldn't be shocked if we start hearing JUCO names pop up soon.
