Strong comes up short at recent coaching clinic:

SAN ANGELO, Texas -- A 20-minute slot for new Texas head coach Charlie Strong stood out on the three-day schedule at the recent coaching clinic at Angelo State -- one of my stops on a recent mid-June trip through Texas. The clinic is a 40-year tradition for the state’s high school coaches to learn from their college counterpart and was one of his first outings in front of a large number of the state’s high school coaches. I was intrigued to hear what Strong’s message would be in one of his first outings in front of a large number of high school coaches.
Part of the intrigue stemmed from the perception -- held by many of his peers and even those who know him well – that Strong is something of an introvert and that the social aspect of the UT job might not be his, ahem, strong suit.
Those in attendance didn’t seem impressed by Strong’s time on the stage. Maybe it was coincidence, but someone let out a loud laugh just as Strong wrapped.
“I think everyone was shocked. It was that bad,” one coach told me later.
“It made me miss Mack,” one joked.
Another: “If I was the coach at Texas, I would act like I had bigger balls than that.”
Strong spoke so rapidly, jamming one sentence on top of another as if he were playing verbal Tetris, that you would have thought he had two minutes, not 20. It was difficult to follow his train of thought or discern the central points being made.

The best part is if (when?) they do have to get rid of him after 3-4 years he's going to be the type of coach that doesn't recruit at an extremely high level, so the next coach will have trouble winning right away as well

exactly. I just don't see how any one person can look at this and not see a train wreck. I mean literally everything we have seen/heard points to a disaster

It can all turn around if he somehow wins like 9-10 games. I don't anticipate that happening, but that would make everything better. I agree though, everything off the field for him so far has been a disaster

they need both them winning 10 games and us only getting like 6 or 7. if both happens then I can see them getting the upper hand. if one or the other, or neither, happens I don't see it. they can help their position by them winning 10 games. if they do that I think it definitely helps, but unless we tank, I don't think we lose our top spot

He's Callahan at Nebraska.

True. I think they're going to really suck on offense for the next few years honestly. Watson has a pretty rough track record as an OC from what I remember. I recall Nebraska fans HATING him when he was there

And I realize Wickline is listed as the OC but we will see

like 3 of their later commits didn't make it to campus, including Poona ford who I'm fairly certain was a pretty desperate need. I don't follow their recruiting typically so I'm not certain, but I saw an article on twitter.
I think he is a pretty decent coach, but I always thought his recruiting was overrated at Louisville. It was almost exclusively Florida kids. He would have been so much better off waiting a year for muschamp to Crash and burn and taking the Florida job.

If Ford never makes it to campus, their recruiting takes a big hit for sure.
It really comes down to this year. Strong has one chance to win big(10+ games) and get an upper hand. If our records are similar, this thing will spiral out of control for them. It would lead to 2015 being the worst roster talent level for them in 15 years. And 2015 aggie roster being the best in more than 15 years. ALL the advantages would then point our way

It's extremely important Snyder shows an improvement on defense. If not, he should be replaced

I think after the spring game, even horn fans are resigned to Watson being the one who actually runs the offense.

Y'all heard anything today on Roney Elam? A lot of CBs going our way.

BP had an update that said it was down to us and LSU and that he would make his choice after he visits LSU in july. the CBs change aren't really over anything that happened today, just a culmination of what has happened over the past few months

Yeah I don't understand why they gave Wickline the title
