Doesn't he play the same spot as Armani Watts? How crazy is our depth at that position going to be?

I think we'll have a safety playing a lot of nickel the next two years with our depth there. They have different skill sets too, it's not like they're all the same player

I've heard that we're running a lot of two-back.

Also, that in his reps, Murray is getting a lot of traditional option and zone-read calls. I may be reading too much into it, but with practice play calling for Murray being specifically tailored to his running ability, it does seem like some of the rumors that we'll use him as QB from time to time even if Allen is the starter may be true.

Not sure how much I love this. While Murray is a great runner, his body type is not meant to be a run first type guy (i.e. Cam Newton at Auburn). He's a great passer, and if the opportunity presents itself, he takes off. My two cents

Agreed. It was Manziels improvisational runs that created/extended big plays. It didn't appear to ever be the called runs. I imagine Murray is much the same.

Also, to the fellas in charge, thanks for letting me on this board.

I've never been a fan of a run-first QB philosophy. It seems like other than Cam and Tebow it always ends up with a broken QB like Reggie & McGee were here. It seems a little risky, given that Murray has a ssmall build, to be trotting him out there as a Fish to primarily run zone-read or traditional pitch-option plays. I'm not saying that's the acutal plan, but it is what they've been practicing when he's in as QB.

Wilson - who missed spring ball - started taking 1st team reps at nickel over Ellis yesterday

yes absolutely. He's participating fully and did so in the spring as well

one of the biggest dilemmas right now is how to get the best talent on the field. If Dunning is one of your best 11, don't you want him playing? But where? I honestly don't know

Btw, by all accounts, Watts is even better this year. Like was said about Kennedy last year, he's this year's "most improved." And I say that even while truly believing Hall is going to be 2nd team or HM all-sec.

Watts seems to me like he would have the better skill set for nickel (I may be way off on that), would they consider putting him there and then Evans and Wilson at safety in nickel situations? But still playing Watts and Evans at safety with 4 DBs on the field

I agree that Watts to nickel would make sense but we're going the other way with Wilson. Maybe it's just a matter of getting guys comfortable in one role at a time. I dunno.

On the oline question, good interview with Christensen today. He breaks down the competition at LG: Sutherland, Elumonur, Stuckey and explains his thoughts on the tackle question that was being discussed in this thread over the weekend

So they can't figure out how to get Dunning on the field?

If they value his run support, I'd put him behind Evans. If it's his coverage skills, then behind Watts. Work him in for a few plays here and there. And then there is special teams.

thats what ive been thinking. murray brings a different dimension to the position. not that allen is a statue by any means, but there will be situations when murray is the better option.

I think Evans is going to be a guy you don;t want to take off the field. With a much nickel as Chavis runs there will be situations where you want a versatile 5th DB than can cover some yet has the size/speed needed to play in the box and make tackles. He's long, lean, athletic, and from I've read just a player.

chavis did a good job with a 215 lb olb that could run about a 4.5 named kwon alexander. chavis seems to like fast lbers.
