WR Marquez Callaway
RB John Kelly
OL Trey Smith
DE Darrell Taylor
DE Jonathan Kongbo
LB Daniel Bituli
S Nigel Warrior

- As bad as the defense got gashed on the ground, I'm not ready to say they will suck this year. I thought the defense looked extremely good the first few series against the triple option until the time of possession got way out of wack due to the Tennessee offense stalling. I think at halftime it was 22:8 TOP in favor of Tech. You just can't have your defense out there for that long.

- I think our offensive line played well after settling down. Dormady did not get sacked all night and they really started to push the Tech DL around later in the game. Trey Smith is a human steamroller out there and is super athletic for an OL. MCBM is a fricking boss and reminds me of Travis Stephens for some reason.

- Dormady was pretty solid in the second half after a very shaky first half. He got away with some very bad throws and poor decisions, iirc he threw into triple or quadruple coverage multiple times. Callaway bailed him out and made his final numbers look much better than they should've been.
I would like to see Guarantano get a lot of PT against Indiana State. That whole sideline thing was weird and made him look pretty bad imo.

- Nigel Warrior has that dog. He threw the GT QB through a xylophone lmao.

- Daniel Bituli was all over the place. LOVED seeing a VOLS linebacker swarm and come up to lay the lumber for once.

- Jonathan Kongbo and Darrell Taylor looked more than capable at DE. I really liked their effort and hustle.

- We seem to have made it past GT without any massive casualties along the defensive line. I saw Vickers getting helped off the field but it did not look too serious. Getting out of a game with Tech with your DL still intact is always a win.

- I know must of us hate Botch but I'm proud as hell of the fight these VOLS showed. They very easily could've rolled over in the 4th and that's exactly what I expected to happen. Props to Butch and the staff for keeping the players' heads in the game.

Need to add Rashan Gaulden to the list as well.

Agree with OP. This team showed a ton of talent and potential. It also showed some serious flaws - some will be corrected but others may dog us. This was a very strange game. Individual performances on D were way better than the overall stats.

Why is Smith not playing one of the tackles?

Another thing on Calloway... Am I the only one that saw Justin Hunter's hops and speed combined with Da'Rick's "I will own every DB that even tries to get close to me and come up with some of the most amazing plays you've ever seen" attitude? If he keeps playing that way then: HOLY shite.

Volfan30 could give you a much better answer but iirc, Smith doesn't have the foot speed yet to play outside or something like that

Interesting. Is that something they expect him to develop/improve, or do they see him as a road grading guard for his career?

Volfan, get in here and answer George's questions!

I don't care what he projects to be as long as that kid is out there among the starting 5. Smiff looked like the meanest SOB on the field last night imo.

I'm interested to see the new and improved Drew Richmond at left tackle next week. VOLS could have a cute little OL by the time we roll into Gainesville imo

They feel better about some of the other guys at tackle but still want him getting a lot of play time so they're playing him at guard.

That 2 pt conversion try last night was season changing.

All of a sudden, the Florida game that appeared to be a tossup feels much more winnable. Then UMass before 2 straight at home with UGA and South Carolina?

4-0 with 2 huge home games............my VAWLS to win the SEC East pick looking better and better.

After this weekend UGA are the front runners for the East with VOLS being #2. Vandy and USCe both look like the types of teams that could throw a wrench in someone's season. Not impressed with UF, and UK/Mizzou are what they are every year.

Just my opinion but we have a lot of players on the OL with talent but not all of them are...well smart/experienced enough...it's limited the combinations we can use. A lot of is a matter of if we use player A we have to use player B to help him out so combinations are tricky. I think Smith will take over the tackle position next season. He might grab it this season if we can get the right players together.

I loved the fact that defense made the play when it mattered despite the grind they took. That was important.
