Well it is Halloween. Today has been a pretty poor showing on secRant.

Back when they had a legitimate defense they were called the blackshirts but they didn't do all the gimmick horseshite.
As they fell on hard times the only thing left was the gimmicks it is a sad state of affairs because 30 years ago going to a game in Lincoln used to be fun as shite. Partying the night before and after the game at Sidetrack Tavern, pregaming at Barry's and the meals at The Watering Hole & Misty's were the tits.
Sidetrack has been closed for quite a while now and the atmosphere as you noticed is asswater during the game.

Nebraska and Colorado leaving the Big XII was dumb as shite for both programs and fricked the Big XII. I think the old Big XII could have survived as it was if those teams hadn't of left. It was always a big deal when Nebraska came to town even after they weren't the same Nebraska.

I hope the skull and crossbones on the field really makes recruits want to live and play in Lincoln, Nebraska

You’ve said it half a dozen times in this thread now... Why does the skull and crossbones thing have your panties in such a twist?
I don’t get who you’re referencing when you say they’ve sold their souls… you mean to the devil?

Well, to Tom Osborne. Which amounts to the same thing.

Times change. When special privileges no longer exist that give you a leg up on the competition, reality sets in.
Nebraska and Oklahoma are no longer relevant or feared.

Nebraska and Colorado leaving didn't do anything to the Bigina 12. It was us leaving that doomed the conference. They couldn't survive without DADDY A&M, we were a cornerstone. Once we left, the conference has been on life support ever since. Less than a decade later, and it's basically conference USA now.

Yeah I didn't give a shite about losing Aggy & Mizzou but losing Nebraska and Colorado pissed me off.
Colorado because Boulder was a fun road trip even if their hippy shitty students did suck it was always nice partying on the rooftop bars when the weather would allow. The scheduling gods were nice to us we usually were up there in early October which meant the weather was pristine.
Nebraska got so butt-hurt by losing to Texas that they fricked themselves for 30 years by running to a conference with no rivals when they were on their way down. The closest program to them is still Iowa and they are 4-11 since joining the B1G against them. Nobody outside of corn country gives a frick about that game. Nebraska vs Oklahoma used to be one of the biggest games of the year. So dumb

1999 was a classic. If I remember correctly, Trans upset #3 Huskers at DKR but then there was a rematch in San Antonio for the Big XII which Trans got spanked. The win at DKR was a very memorable day and long night.

Becoming unable to take partial qualifiers and leaving the Big 12 doomed Nebraska.
They really needed the conference games in Texas for recruiting. Somewhat like what is going on with OU. OU now plays one game per year in Texas and not much talent in Oklahoma.

Agree, Nebraska benefitted massively by playing the Texas schools so often. It was a pipeline Lincoln back then they were a juggernaut. Before they added the West Coast schools, that 3D flyover graphic of B10 country would always crack me up for how far away Nebraska was from the rest of the conference. Even with the west coast schools, Nebraska is still isolated.
OU is the same story but was artificially propped up as a program by only have to win the Big XII. If I'm an OU fan I would 10 out of 10 times rather have a great season and win a conference championship and get my arse kicked in the playoffs with every once in a while maybe get lucky and win it all than have to be at best a mid-level SEC team. It's just too hard and OU will never have the resources or native (pun intended) high school talent.

Don't you know Texas has a game against Missouri next week?

It is known doesn't change the fact that when y'all announced for the SEC I didn't care. My desire to return to Columbia is pretty low on the totem pole.
Meanwhile if Texas returned to Nebraska you can bet your arse I'd be there that's the difference.

During their time in the B12 Nebraska record against Texas was 2-11 in football. Very similar in other sports. Texas and the 3 other Texas universities were instrumental in disallowing partial qualifiers.
Texas broke Nebraska and is the largest reason they left to the B1G. Nebraska is still broken.
BTW...that was Nebraska's 3rd 4th quarter collapse for a loss, 3 in a row!
