It’s not difficult to see the Ole Miss position here. The AD is handling it as anyone would expect.

Ole Miss would be wise to take that advice. If LSU is willing to let Lane continue coaching the playoff team Ole Miss should let lane.
Saban had to let Kiffin go days before a national championship game because he was “distracted” after taking the head coaching job at FAU. How focused do you think he’ll actually be on his former teams success in the playoffs?

This is a false comparative argument
In HS a teacher has a contract. If I take another job for next year I don’t pack my shite and start working the next job immediately. I finish the year and my contract. Sure I’m going to start prepping for the change but I’m going to finish the year. In fact, I’m required to do this.
The problem is now college sports is closer to the pros and “business” model than the academic one. Ole Miss can’t talk about loyalty a lot seeing they recruited from the portal as a priority. If that’s the new rules then nothing against them for that.
However you can’t get mad when a coach gets promoted by the media to the point another team offers him a transfer offer he can’t refuse and takes it. Funny to me the media hyped him big time and now are all like “Lane is a POS for leaving.”

Ole Miss doesn't owe Kiffin or the players anything. They are the ones being paid to win. The fans/boosters are the ones paying the salaries of both, and they are the ones being treated like scum.

You're comparing a $60k a year math teacher to a $15 million coach plus staff. The teacher who's giving out exams at the high school doesn't harm the other school. Every day Lane spends in Oxford as the LSU coach harms both LSU & Ole Miss.

Do LSU fans not realize you guys are the assholes in this situation? Hiring their coach right before the playoffs is a shitty thing to do.
LSU has to worry about LSU. LSU brass is hired to make the best hire, and if that happens to be the coach at Ole Miss so be it.
I don’t think anyone likes the timing of this, but LSU isn’t wrong for going after kiffin.

But Lane coaching Ole Miss in the CFP gives them a much better chance of winning than with an interim HC.

This.
I really feel awful for Ole Miss fans. Their best season in over 60 years is being overshadowed by all of this off-the-field drama.

Dog shite take here. He’s literally slapping ole miss in the face. His antics over the last few weeks have negated everything he’s done there. Ole Miss owes him absolutely nothing. Pack your shite and leave.
Which is why this is a perfect example of cutting off one’s nose to spite their face.
Lane is gone, and if he wants to recruit OM players he’s going to do it whether he coaches in the playoffs or not.
But OM has torpedoed its chances in the playoffs — that doesn’t hurt Lane in the slightest but it drastically tarnishes their best season in generations.

I think it's very unprofessional, if what McMurphy is reporting is true, to threaten your soon-to-be ex-employer with the poaching of staff and players if he isn't allowed to coach in the playoffs. That is so juvenile and this is coming from a guy who both likes and respects Kiffin.

Ole Miss should ask for the full buyout from his personal checking account before Lane can leave. If the check bounces call the law on him. They should also take him off coaching and take his team cell phone so he can't call players and recruits. Lock him out of the football facility. Tell any assistant coach that wants to go with Lane the same thing.

Proving my point. It’s not about an educational contract. It’s a business agreement. Once you take the academics out of it and make it about money WTF do you expect. Seriously if anyone is actually surprised by this you are beyond retarded. Also, anyone who supports NIL and has benefited from it and trying to act like a victim is equally retarded.
Ethics was taken out of college football before this. Add in a crazed media hyping the move for months and a fanbase and admin trying to force an early decision due to the recruiting calendar and you have what we have here.
Talk shite all y’all want to. Kiffin did what was best for him and the system is designed for that. If you don’t like it then change the system.

I actually think it's a far bigger distraction for Lane to continue coaching them. I imagine some players are pissed that despite a playoff appearance, 11-1 record, and beating LSU, Lane still chose to leave Ole Miss.

Exactly this
OM is only fricking themselves. Legally nothing Lane has done and is doing is illegal. Players have the free will to jump via the portal if they want to. I understand why OM was trying to get an early answer in order to protect their recruiting but they have fricked up by trying to put Lane in a corner.
If this was all done in a back room a month ago and Ole Miss had the time to find their replacement then everyone would be fine. The media and “inside sources” have fricked transitions like this as they force info out before schools and coaches can make decisions and put new staff into place.

Read the rest of the post. I literally say it’s not like this anymore because it’s now a business deal and not an academic one.
Also if you didn’t know he was making the change and all this was done behind closed doors would it make a difference? With the media trying to get that first scoop of info and pushing the issue, it’s now caused this situation more than anything Lane ever did.
