Bama/OU - Stumble pass

In the game Simpson and the RB both appeared to fall/stumble. Then Simpson threw a pass. Was this on purpose as the TV commentators claimed? Never seen that in a game.

100% a designed play. Bama must run 4-5 gimmick plays a game now because they cannot gain a couple of yards when needed running the ball. Sad really.

The Detroit Lions used a fake “stumble” play for a passing touchdown last year
It’s a gimmick, but the Lions always get creative with their playcalling and tricks

OU got burned on 2 deception plays. The other was when Simpson was walking towards the sideline and they hiked the ball.

To me, it looked like a well-executed, clever, designed play. No way two guys “accidentally” fell down simultaneously.

Yeah, there was the “walk to the sideline” thing too. The whole game was weird. I don’t remember seeing that, but several people have brought it up.
Even that makes sense, the whole fake stumble thing is so risky to get a little edge. You possibly actually lose your footing and falling to throw the defense off a split second. Bama used to just line up and kill you with pure talent, it was a bit embarrassing to see a running back straight fall to the ground.
