UF just was too late here to make a big push.

Also think theres a path where Montgomery starts for UGA within 1-2 years - I don't think UGA is sold on what they have at QB after Beck leaves.

Had to be more than this. Maybe recruits are more confident about Billy's future?

I agree. I think there is hope that one of the 3 behind Beck will take a step forward between now and next year, but it is hope. Losing Raoila at the last minute last year was not good.

DJ Lagway is the main factor in all of this. His emergence was the reason Napier got the statement of confidence from the Admin and the reason why UF is signing 2 5* WRs and another highly rated (top 100 on some services) WR

I think UGA would break the bank for a portal QB before trotting out a QB option they aren’t comfortable with.

Montgomery has good stuff on his HS tape, question about him right now is moreso about how he recovers from injury

It is amazing what a vote of confidence does in recruiting. Imagine how hard it was to recruit when all the other schools were saying to recruits that Billy was gone at the end of the year. And boosters were publicly saying the money was there.

And the fans thought it was because Billy couldn't recruit.

Sure, but UGA has a huge amount of money invested in its roster and generally being good at football. Risking a down season with uncertainty at QB just isn’t smart financially when there are known quantities available.

I greatly prefer HS prospects at every other position, but QB is a different animal for established programs with championship-ready rosters.

ETA: this is also why I think Michigan was dumb to pay so much for Underwood. Even for a #1 QB, the chances that he ever even starts for Michigan may be 50/50. For a Ryan Montgomery, the odds are even lower.

Idk about known good quantities for this cycle, unless there are more names that pop up.

This cycle looks pretty weak for portal QBs

There will be very surprising names available just like every year. But, we must not be in the market if we are taking 2 in addition to the 3 backups we have.

There almost certainly will be. Even if there aren’t, I doubt UGA has any expectation of Montgomery playing next season coming off his injury with no experience.

Highly unlikely all three currently at UGA stay through the summer.

I’m assuming projected portal moves factor into these decisions, and recruits know things we don’t.

Wilson didn't happen. Neither did Montgomery. Signing day rumors abound.

Neither were rumors per se.

Wilson informed Miami and Florida last last night that he'd be going to Florida, but Oregon was able to make a last minute move.

Florida didn't have a spot for Montgomery.
