This has been how this staff operates though. Fill up the class by November/December and then chase elite players in the winter time. If you land an upgrade then someone already committed has to be cut loose. If you don't get the upgrade you have a good fallback already committed.

Good strategy for the short term, but you have to wonder about the long term consequences.

Seems this happens a lot with Tennessee commits, kids going public shaming them that is.

As much as it is a shitty thing for the school to do, it goes both ways. Whenever a recruit lies to one school and then commits to another on signing day.

This is probably my only criticism of Butch outside of some in game coaching.
He takes way too many average commitments early then cuts bait late.
I know it will happen every once in a while if I guy doesn't develop like you think they will but it is a bit too often right now.

Butch already has a reputation for doing this. It's only going to get worse. However, recruits do this type of thing too, but that's on the recruit, this is on an institution, so it's different.

Sounds like his scholarship wasn't pulled per se, but he was asked to take a blue shirt and go on scholarship in August.

One variable that's not really getting mentioned is that we just changed defensive coordinators. That might or might not have anything to do with it but he was a commit and there wasn't a thing mentioned about this until that coordinator change. Noone would criticize south Carolina if they hired chip Kelly and he dropped a scholarship from a pocket passer. I hate that it went that way and this kid feels like he does, unfortunately it's a dog eat dog world and we have been left at signing day losing kids without a replacement as well so we just have to try to get the best players we can. At the end if the day though this kid can goto school to play d-1 ball and get an education for free, which is far from something youre entitled to so he will be ok.

Goes both ways. Kid needs to get over it. He's not getting treated like the superstar he was at his high school so he pulls this shite after we pulled the offer. Little too big of an ego already.
