Funny how the same schools that rank high in recruiting also tend to win more games.
Total coincidence.
I didn't say otherwise.
I said that stars aren't the end all in recruiting.
I'll lay it out more clearly so you and your UGA friend can understand it better next time.

Here's a 5 star argument for you.
Another 5 star.

Another 5 star.

Yeah, I wonder why anyone would be confused.

I think where we are getting off topic is what the ratings are actually implying. They aren't attempting to say that at the end of their lives a 3* won't be as successful as a 5*. They are a snapshot in time saying that at this point, these players are further along in their development and possess the ability to continue to improve and go to the next level.
A guy can be deemed a 3* for something as simple as having a HS coaching staff that was unable to properly develop. He can absolutely get coached up and thrive in the future, but having to spend part of your 3-5 years in college learning techniques that the 5* already knows does indeed have an effect. Can he get to where the 5* was coming out of high school and progress to where he is coming out of college? Yes. but it is less likely and it is that likelihood that the ratings are measuring.

While I think this is how they SHOULD be, that's definitley not the case across the board. I know for certain that Rivals gives their rating based on NFL potential. Yeah, I know..it's retarded. A head rivals recruiting guy (can't remember who specifically) was answering some questions on the UGA Rivals recruiting board once and was asked why someone (maybe Fromm or Lecounte, someone like that) wasn't ranked higher despite the multitude of stats, camps, and everythign else that would indicate they should be. His answer was that they didn't project to be high round draft picks in the NFL which is why they weren't ranked higher.

This year's class will be solid, but 2018 could possibly be a game changer for us.
Two guys in this class who aren't highly ranked that I'm excited about are Damani Staley and DeVonne Bowen. Both of these guys are fast-twitch guys who play well in space and can get after the QB.

This is actually a really good example of the star rating discussion. Staley is a very good player, however he's played DE throughout HS. He is projected to play LB in college. He's never played LB other than I think they tried him out there at the Shrine Bowl. Having to learn a completely new position does in and of itself make it less likely that he will end up in the NFL. Not saying that he won't, its just not as likely as a guy who has been playing LB his entire life.

Wait...
A SC poster starting a mega-obsessed about UGA on the SECR (multiple times), SEC O-T board, and numerous team boards (UF and UT last I checked, maybe more) si cool,
but UGA fans talking about SC in a thread with SC in the title on the recruiting board is trolling?
Interesting.

It makes sense if you don't think about it.

I hope South Carolina Tennessee and Florida keep loading up on 3 stars. Great classes for them...and for UGA as an opponent.
And I don't want to see any crap about how Richt recruited. Kirby has top 3 class that would be #1 most years. Championship level recruiting. If we win the East next season it could get even better. Only Bama will be problem by 2018 if he can coach these guys up.
